We will only realise what we had when he has gone, bolton as a club with its financial lack of power and very small LOYAL fan base should be a mid table first Division club, the fans who have come to support the club in the past 5-10 years have been spoilti say to many of them get a reality check.

Tony Cottee was saying just the same on channel 5's late night football show yesterday. Couldn't speak highly enough of what Sam had achieved. He was convinced that he had taken us as far as he possibly could and fully expects him to take the next job that he is offered at a big club. Hard to argue with that.

I wasn't disagreeing, I was just sticking my motty in that he won't take the next job in the offing imo. It'll be a biggie. I do wonder if he's just waiting to fill old red noses shoes down the road.

Rumour is though he's turned Newcastle down twice, Everton - young manager, Tottenham - not so old and technically good. Villa - O'Neill will be given a couple of season imo.

Got to agree. When the England job debacle was going on there was constant talk of lack of good English managers, probably because none of the big clubs are willing to give them a chance. Once Sam gets the chance to take on a so called bigger club which isn't one of the big four, then i think he'll really shine and leave the big clubs regretting the decision not to take a risk.

I don't necessarily think it will be all doom and gloom when Sam eventually goes.

 

All depends on the next appointment. We're fairly stable financially, decent side, probably have a regular crowd of around 28,000 if the football was more of a spectacle.

 

The next man in should be looking to take us to the next level (ie regular European football with Champions League on occasion and a cup).

 

I don't think it follows that if Sam leaves we'll automatically find ourselves back where we were in the mid nineties. A lot has changed about the club since then (not all of it good) but as a force, we shouldn't think of ourselves in the same terms as we did then.

The next man in should be looking to take us to the next level (ie regular European football with Champions League on occasion and a cup).

No pressure then? I think the next man in will have done a brilliant job just keeping us in the top flight.

I would disagree, I think you have a very weak squad, one of the worst...BUT have one of the strongest TEAMS, as in first 11....just looking at the stats above you can see how hard to beat Bolton are.

For my money, it has to be Sam. Alot of Bolton fans are becoming increasingly ungrateful. Believing that we now have a divine right to be in and around Europe every year.

 

When Sam go's, we'll realise how much of a good job he's done. We'll be lucky to replace him, if we ever do. Best thing to happen to this club bar none.
