I was impressed with Foster from Watford

 

But I wouldn't swap our fella for anybody

 

What would Benitez have given to take him instead of his clown?

I know its the same old arguement, but Jussi's overall distribution is poor.

 

And before anyone says, he's there to stop the ball going in the net. There are other things that make a great keeper.

 

Quick, accurate kicks and throws start counter attacks and create goals or at least opportunities.

 

But would i swap him for anyone? probably not... (unless we had 10m to spend on a keeper)

Shot stopping, there's no one better. Also, remember, Cech and Van der Saar are (in theory) shielded by a stronger back 4.

i think he has now matured into one of the top 3 keepers in the premier league, on current form jaaskalinen is second to none, and the best keeper we have had at bolton since i have been watching (over 30 years)

Its his distribution and kicking that stops him from being a great keeper instead of a very very good one, swap him nope and I think he's up there with Cech and Van Der Saar who have a better defense. Easily the best keeper I can remember us having.

Perhaps the balance is linked to appearances (100k upfront / 250 grand after 500 appearances ) or was Toddy a "cash man" as well??

but he is always looking better and better ever since he has been in the premier divison just lacks on his kicking but id rather him be shite at that than anything else

He has always been a top class shot stopper but he used to be very dodgy when it came to coming off his line. Now he has sorted that part of his game out and is very good at catching crosses. He is an all round top class 'keeper, at least in the top 3 in the prem.

As far as I recall when he came to Bolton he was good at coming out for crosses. This was 'taught' out of him by the goalkeeping coach until he ended up never coming off his line for anything further out than the 6 yard box.

In my opinion he's one of the best keepers in the Prem. Problem with that, though, is that with that comes the fact that he's also one of our most valued assets.

Jussi let 2 goals in during his first 2 games IIRC.

A 2-2 draw away at palace on the opening day was followed by a 1-0 win at home to Hartlepool in the league Cup.

Think I still have the unused ticket for that game. Spent 4 hours in the baking hot sun stuck in a jam on the A3. Didn't start moving properly until 4pm by which time I was still an hour away from Selhurst. Only consolation was that there were more Palace fans stuck round me than Bolton ones.

I remember watching him at Crewe when we lost 4-3! He was woeful that day!

I believe his kicking has improved greatly, he's obviously found this as his weakness and tried to improve it. Yes the odd ball goes astray into touch, but you see all goalkeepers do this from time to time. Big step up from when he used to kick it into touch 7/10 times. Amazing goalkeeper, Bolton Legend.

He changed his kicking style a couple of years ago and now it's better than it was. Still not greatm but better.

I'm not having this crap about kicking and distrubution being rubbish. Can't ever say that I've been overly impressed with Cech and Van der Saar's K&D.

 

yes, his all-round game could be better but you name me a keeper who is the dogs when it comes to everything a keeper should do.

To suggest that Jussi is at the same level as Cech is laughable.He would have gone for several million by now if he was that good.

 

I'd put Jussi in the top half dozen but i dont think he has the presence of the great keepers.

In my opinion there are 3 outstanding goalkeepers in the Premier League.Chelsea have 2 and Man Utd have 1.

Of the others i prefer Friedel and Given but i think Jussi is at a similar level to those two and Robinson/Lehmann/James/Schwarzer.

 

Don't get me wrong i thought Jussi should have been the Player of the season last year rather than Gardner but i think that our defence is that well organised that another keeper could slot in quite easily.

 

I would agree that the 2 Chelsea keepers and Van Der Sar are the outstanding keepers in the league. However I would say that after that it would be Jussi and Given, 2 top class keepers with nothing between them. Then Friedel and Lehmann who are still good but not the class of the above. Then James,Robinson and Schwarzer who IMO are average and all have big flaws in their games.
