Fill The Stadium

Last Friday I had a meeting, at the Reebok, with Allan Duckworth & Phil Gartside. It was a meeting arranged in response to an email I had sent to Mr.Duckworth about Mr.Gartside???s comments in the Bolton News (Re: missing fans at the Reebok).

The essence of my email, & the subsequent meeting, was to encourage the club to:

1) Reduce admission charges

2) Stop criticising the fans

It was an interesting meeting & both Allan & Phil made me feel very welcome & listened to my views. We discussed much in our 2 hour session & whilst I stressed my points they were keen to demonstrate the ambitions of the club (e.g. to get into Europe, then be good enough to perform well enough the following season, whilst competing in Europe, to qualify for Europe again the following season ...... not many clubs, outside the top 4, have achieved that). These targets will place financial demands on the club that will soon account for much of the extra TV income which will be forthcoming next season (e.g. A significantly larger squad will be required).

Imagine my surprise, late last night, when I saw the announcement that season tickets are to be reduced by 10% next season. I ???m not, for one minute, suggesting the prices have been reduced as a result of my meeting, although maybe I was the straw that broke the camels back.

Anyway, one of the points raised during the meeting was the illegal screening of matches in pubs, which, we all agreed, was having a major impact on attendances.

Phil & Allan said they were trying to stop this happening by taking the pubs through the courts, to which I replied, ???since you don???t live locally, do you know all the dozens of pubs which now show our matches illegally????

They said they had a dossier of pubs but would welcome any additions to it, to which I promised to email them a list. My list is prepared & ready for sending, however, I don???t know all the pubs, in & around Bolton, who show matches illegally, so this is where you come in.

Please list, on here, all the pubs you know that show ???Al Jazeera??? matches in, say, a 5 mile radius of Bolton town centre. I will then compile a list of all the pubs & forward it to the club.

Please include the following:

??? Name of Pub

??? Road/Street name pub is on

??? District of pub (e.g. Astley Bridge, Horwich)

No doubt there will be some on here who will criticise me for attempting this, on the grounds that it has the potential to stop them being able to watch the Wanderers on dodgy TV at their local.

I DON???T CARE.

I couldn???t care less if you lose the convenience of being able to watch The Wanderers in the pub or that you will have to 'pay' to watch them live.

I do care about Bolton Wanderers & the continued development & success of my (ours, if you agree) club.

For the record, I have never, & will never, watch a game on dodgy TV whilst the Wanderers are playing at home, however, I have, & will continue to watch Wanderers games on dodgy TV (as & when it suits me) when the Whites are playing away (& I cannot attend the match live).

No, I???m not a hypocrite; the away team doesn???t receive any income from away fixtures (not in the league anyway) and therefore this has no financial impact on the club. Having said that, I would gladly forfeit the opportunity to watch any away match on dodgy TV if they could be stopped from showing them, because the convenience & low cost of watching BWFC on dodgy TV is insignificant compared to having full houses at the Reebok.

This is the view of a loyal & passionate Bolton Wanderers fan, if you agree with me & want to help, please list the pubs you know about. If you don???t agree with me, please don???t waste your time trying to justify your views, because, as I have said previously ???I REALLY DON???T CARE???.

while i agree with the sentiment, i personally would not shop a pub for showing dodgy satelite, i have watched a good few matches on dodgy satellite when i have not been able to travel to away games, but to grass a landlord up for trying to maximise his earnings abd disrupt his livelihood is hypocrital and i think out of order.

Whilst we're asking people to shop baddies, if anyone knows the turd who ripped my wing mirror off yesterday, please let me know.

On the subject of pubs showing home games, employing double standards on this forum will meet, I suspect, with a somewhat frosty response.

Had you said no foreign satellite AT ALL, fair enough, but you cannot have it both ways. Sorry, because the majority of what you wrote was excellent.

Plus it isnt illegal.

Sorry Zoz, and fair play to you, but by watching away games on Al Qaeda TV you are assisting the 'supply and demand' of such.

You can't have it both ways.

I'm sorry but you can't pick and choose.

If you watch away games then in my book it is just as bad as watching a home game, it's the same principal.

The game does effect the home clubs profit and loss account and that's what it boils down to, pounds shillings and pence.

Why folk have double standards is beyond me.

FYI the club had been discussing next years ticket prices well before you where involved.

I for one would never watch the Wanderers in the boozer if they are playing at home - it's just not right. For as long as i can remember we have always been, at best, a 22k to 28k club. And even with the exorbitant pricing of football these days we have still hung around that mark. The crowds are not turning up because the price of football is just to much. Over the past few seasons the novelty of Premiership football has worn off with Bolton folk, ironically because we have become succsesfull, and they don't want to pay ??30something quid for 90mins football. But I do recognise that some people do go to the pub rather than get their arses down to thr Reebok. But I have doubts on how much of a financial loss this is to the club. Can't see crowds pushing 30k if pubs are banned from showing Bolton games.

I'm not picking & choosing, as I stated in my post, I would be more than happy if the pubs were banned from showing ALL dodgy satellite TV matches (thats's home & AWAY). On the odd occassion I would want to watch an away match on dodgy TV, if I couldn't, because the pubs were banned from showing them, I would be absolutely delighted.

In case anyone else misunderstood me, I WANT ALL FOOTBALL ON DODGY TV BANNED. That's home & AWAY matches.

And no, it most certainly is not the same principal, I'm not bothered about affecting the home clubs profit & loss account, WHEN THAT CLUB IS NOT BWFC. I don't expect fans of other clubs to be concerned about the profits of BWFC & I sure as hell aren't bothered about theirs.

If anyone wants to add to my list, feel free to PM me.

Sort out your use of principal / principle and I might take you seriously!

Hitting all the sites with your crap eh?

go suck an egg...........

Ziggy you tit, Personally the jezeeri matches don't affect me because I go to all the matches home and away anyway,

but to ask people to send to you these pubs names is sick,I hope you don't cross my path sunshine.

Sorry Zoz,
For f??cks sake smiffs mate, don't get me mixed up with this self-righteous sanctimonious nob head, whoever he is.

Mods/admin can you tell this grassing tw??t to stick his pseudo moralistic claptrap up his arse and ban him.

I do care about Bolton Wanderers & the continued development & success of my (ours, if you agree) club.
I don't agree, now f??ck off back to whatever website you come from. Are you Natasha's long lost cousin?

Correct me if i'm wrong, but don't Sky sell the pictures to the foreign channels, then the lanlords PAY a subscription to the foreign company to be able to receive the games?

If thats the case, the Landlords are actually doing fcuk all wrong. I believe some pub landlords have been taken to court, but have been judged to be innocent of any wrong doing.

The channel that shows most of the games (The Saudi based Art channel) has apparently lost the rights to Premiership games next season due to being outbid by a rival company, and for people here to receive the games - you'll need a dish the size of Yorkshire.

If my last paragraph is proved to be the case, then your misguided attempts to become the school snitch will all be in vain.

Here's one. The Vulcan on the jct of Turton Street and Kay Street, Bolton. Shows dodgy matches every Saturday and gets about 200 in most home games. That 200 would be a good addition to our home crowd figures.

Well I have to say there's been couple of times this year I've been at a "dodgy" game. You could tell it was ropey as the quality was bad and there was constant interference which reduced any enjoyment. Daft thing is that by the end of the day I'd spent a fortune anyhow.

I did fell a bit guilty and they certainly should not be able to get away with it.

So feel free to report them, details below

Don't forget the Beadle's Arms, that gets a good few in on matchdays - go get 'em Ziggy lad.

football sold its soul to television years ago, they dont give a toss about fans.

as one chairman said at the time, when his fans complained.

" with the tv money,we could play in empty stadiums and still make a profit."

fans can not plan ahead anymore, with ko times and dates regularly changed.

watford fans have to travel to plymouth for a late ko for tv.

what about the supporters?

Let me know if you know any of the landlords personally. I'm sure they'll find other ways to fill their pubs on a Saturday afternoon.

I wasn't going to say anything.

Spider, you really do need to keep up. If I'd listed any open pubs on here I'd have been:

  • Suffering the wrath of the Mods and Admin
  • Suffering similarly the wrath of any board users who frequent said public houses
  • leave myself wide open to legal implications

Didn't read it if I'm honest. Bugger.

Okay then, The Trotters on Bradshawgate keep showing the games....
