Love him or hate him, he's was a guiding figure in the 80/90's music scene.

Joy Division, New Order, Monday's and lots more.

He talked both shite and sense.

Sad day for music and media IMO,

RIP.

always thowt him a pussy, but had recently grown to respect him as a top northerner

rip

I don't normally jump on these types of thread, and I was of a similar opinion until I had the pleasure of sitting next to him on a flight to Dublin, where we struck up a right good conversation for half an hour or so. Manchester in general, ad the music scene in particular, has lost one of it's greatest sons.

RIP Tony

Hacienda

Still nothing comes close

I know and didn't ever go..................

Come on Widnes give us some tales....

There's a book by Peter Walsh that tells a very very true story about the Manchester scene at the time called Gang War

Most of the things written about the Hacienda are completely true and I was in there when most of them happened (just didn't know it at the time) always assumed it was just a rumble between a couple of lads, turned out that they all had uzi's

Frightening now to think about it

But, the music far out weighed the London scene

My memories were of Wilson drinking his campagne and everybody else being completely off their faces on chemicals, was a atmosphere like non other and I mean that in a good way

RIP indeed, a top man, who could have made far more money than he ever did, it seems for him it was always about the music.

I'm not sure how "true to life" it actually is, but it's well worth watching "24hr Party People" if you haven't before.

Knew he had cancer but didn't know he was so close to deaths door. Not been a fan of the manchester music scene but I suppose it has it's place.

I watched that last month but never even thought that he might only have a few weeks to live, yeah he looked ill but I was really surprised to hear the poor fella had died so soon after seeing that. RIP.

I was under the impression the drug his friends were paying for was keeping him alive. Didn't realise he was so close to deaths door. RIP

Yeah a sad loss indeed.

57 no age to be taken off God's earth.

Makes you wanna live every day until it is your last.

RIP to the Madchester maestro.

Met him a few times, usually in Atlas Bar, decent bloke for a United Fan. "24 hour party people" will be getting watched again very soon.

Always found it strange that he was the reporter sent by Granda reports to Liverpool to tell the scousers

Bill Shankley was dead.

a unique character who has done a lot to shape manchester today, from the music to regeneration, and warning aliens to stay away from LH

taught me its better to believe the legend than the truth

Not very I'd guess. As far as I remember the Shaun / Bez moment is shot in Langworthy, because it looks better for the story than Little Hulton I suppose...it instantly became a fairy tale in my opinion once I saw them take that sort of 'artistic license'

RIP Tony though, I think he would hold his hands up to being a pretentious fooker, so that's fair enough in my book. He did a lot for the North West scene

Well, I think it's fair to say that Tony was a one-off. Like most pioneers he seemed to believe in himself even when nobody else did - even if it meant him not coming across in the best light.

Like all the main players in the North-West he used to live in Marple

Was it not just when Shankly resigned?

I always love it when he introduced Sex Pistols doing Anarchy - awesome. Kinda like he knew what was coming, but the TV punters didn't and were in for a real shocker.

Seem to remember his missus was very ill in hospital with cancer and he couldn't care a fcuk, shagging some other bird behind her back instead. This came from someone sharing the ward with his missus.
