For the first time in 10 years I haven't got a season ticket this year.

Would much rather spend my money on chosen away games and Europe away games.

Oh, the club wrote to me a couple of times offering season tickets, shredded the letters and haven't heard from them since.

Can be sure as f?ck though that I will get a season ticket if we get relegated. They will need our support as much then as they do now, but the JCL's won't renew so I will. If that makes sense

ermm, how in lords name can a teenager be owt but a jcl?

Couldn't help when I was born. A jcl to me is someone who will f?ck off the club as soon as we drop. I won't. Lots of teenagers I know won't.

I wasn't there at Aldershot at home, or Wrexham away. Wish I was, physically impossible though

By your definition of JCL's being those that f?ck off - then you are indeed a JCL as you've not got an ST anymore.

Not saying I agree with your definition though.

As a lapsed ST holder, getting written to by the club a couple of times is more than a few others have had; you then shred the letters. What more do you want them to do for you - give you a lift?

Can understand older fans being disgruntled (no standing, no beer on the terraces, not same atmosphere as at Burnden, marriage, kids, mortgages, etc, etc). But a teenager?

Handpicking away games and Euro aways doesn't make you loyal - it makes you a glory-hunter.

The bread and butter of SUPPORTING Bolton Wanderers is by attending HOME games. Regardless of where they are played (Bolton, Horwich, Kabul).

Perhaps it all comes down to identity then. My friend was asking me why I hadn't renewed (after 20 years a sth), and after all the excuses on this board, I realised that the I don't feel part of the club anymore.......saturday was always football, regardless of where we were playing, and I found last season I was turning up to matches just because I had a st. So I figure a season away may make a difference, although I saw the first three home matches and went to the Rab match....and if that makes me a glory hunter, than feck off and disappear up your own arse

If you read my full post you will see that by being an ST for 20 years you cannot possibly be a teenager, thus my comment wasn't aimed at you.

to be honest muzzle that is as good a reason as i have heard for not getting a season ticket, i have ummedd and erred for last couple of seasons, but get one now out of an almost sense of duty.

i like the crack on match days but oftenm wonder if i was nt at the game could i find something jsut as enjoyable and a lot cheaper elsewhere...

the club has changed massively over reecnt years and in doing has left a lot of fans behind, what all clubs do not seem to realise is that these fans wont just come back en masse and the new customers wont have the same loyalty bred over generations that the 'owd skool' had.

younger fans like say garp are as loyal as i ever was so this is not a reflection on those that do turn up week in week out, but there nt the same % of fans who are the young blood of the club.

Only had chance to read through the replies now.

I work in a restaurant where the main business days are Saturday and Sundays, and attend college during the week. Bit of a reversal for the majority of people on here, who work during the week and have weekends off, therefore can attend the game.

I can't get every Saturday/Sunday, whenever the match is, off work, which is only normal i think. Does this still make me a "glory hunter"?

Just ignore them, son. They'll sl?g you whatever you say - think it's to do with you having your whole life ahead of you :good:

I don't take much to heart anyway, even more so on a message board :good:

Whereas the rest of us have only got the REST of our lives in front of us.

Some excellent responses on here. Makes me wonder why the club doesn't ask the supporters for their opinion!

A large proportion of our fan-base consists of casual supporters. In my opinion the club needs to make it as easy as possible for these people to attend. None of this Category A, B, C bollocks, or different prices for each row, or buying tickets three months in advance via your credit card and a note from the council.

Just charge season ticket holders ?15 per game for any seat in the ground and the casual supporter no more than ?25 for the same. This would also give the club leeway to reduce the casual tickets still further every so often without pissing off the ST holders. Open a few pay-on-the-day turnstiles for cash admissions and promote the club properly.

Niall Quinn went on a charm offensive to woo the Sunderland supporters who had become similarly disillusioned with the club, so why can't BWFC?

Don't think anyone called you a glory hunter, my post for example was more of a comment aimed at your own description of a "JCL"

Read back up the thread

Oh well, my opinion of a JCL is different to yours

I've never stated who I would call a JCL

Do you honestly think there is anyone within our club that could relate to the fans in any way possible??

I dont and i think they would take it as a step down to talk to the "fans"

BWFC forever

Welcome back Vic.

For the purpose of discussion, lets assume Joe Public has watched Bolton all his life, but as a casual fan.

A generation ago, maybe there were fewer places to spend your disposable income that appealed to Joe Public, now football is a fully fledged member of the 'entertainments industry' and all the fluffy b?llocks that goes with it, the casual observer has many more options to get rid of their hard earned.

Being a loyal fan or not, on a grand scale I do not think football is value for money.

If the average wage round these parts is ?20k per annum, that equates to around 6 or 7 quid an hour. So the same man needs to work for about 4 hours (or 1/10th of a working week) to watch 90 minutes of football.

If Joe went to 3 games a month, how many bills could he pay with the same money?

Once upon a time, it was chepaer to spend 90 minutes in a football ground than 90 minutes sat in the pub. Joe can sit in Weatherspoons all day and get w?nkered for ?30. I know its probably the lowest comparison, but when your looking to get Joe, who's been driving a bus all week (or similar) into the Reebok, then its things like this that go against the club.

But the club don't really care about Joe do they?

See I understand what you're saying, but

BWFC didn't create the problem

The way I see it

football was re-marketed / branded etc in the 90's as a designer product by Sky / The Premier League and the Govt (for Euro96) - for "customers" to go to the games was to be seen as a fashion accessory - this for me is when "Joe" started to become alienated.

Football hasn't been Joe's game for a while now - it's now seen more by Sebastian

The problem with Sebastian is that he got into football as it was fashionable, but the shine is starting to wear off, so he's moved on to the next thing. He knows fashions / trends and the like come and go and so does his custom.

Meanwhile Joe doesn't want to go back to all-seater stadiums on retail parks now because they're made for Sebastian. And Joe won't go back even if it's ?10 a game because deep down he knows it aint his game anymore (Bobcat's coments illustrate this)

So does the club take a step back in time to make it suitable for Joe again because that's what it will take? And lets face it, it's not nice reading but look at the figures - there's more Sebastians than Joes (see attendances over the last years) ans Sebastian spent more in the clubshop etc

So even if they wanted to is it possible for BWFC to make it a place for Joe again and also portray the corporate image required to attract sponsors and business partners etc?

I don't have the answers, but this isn't as simple to solve as some folk make out :(

I think Joe would still go as a casual fan, provided it was easy and cheap for him to go, like it was in previous generations.

The days of thinking 'its 2pm, there's nowt on the telly and the racing isnt up to much on grandstand today, I'll nip down to Burnden' are long gone.

And in our town there are a damned site more Joes than Sebatians

im thinking what you're saying is the club have a choice to make

try to compete with the big clubs or don't

and if they don't, we find our level, probably towards the bottom of (in old money) divison 3, cos prices arent much cheaper down there

I totally agree. A lot of casual supporters can't be arsed checking the website to see when tickets are on general sale, ringing the club, buying a ticket over the phone, queueing to pick up the ticket on the day of the game and then queueing up again to hand it over to the guy on the turnstile. They just want to turn up on the day, pay their money and watch the game. If the club puts obstacles in the way, then they just won't bother.

Totally spot on. I am going to Munich, probably my one and only UEFA trip this season, but I am an ST holder and will watch more or less every game at home, as well as a fair few away. I met a fair few purported Bolton fans in Marseille who had never actually be to the Reebok, or even Burnden!

And we'd all prefer it to not be like that, but it is like that for a reason and people that support other clubs don't have the same apathy Boltonians appear to have - their passion seems to negate those obstacles.
