Anyone Else Changed Their Minds?

There isnt a BWFC chequebook with 'Gary Megson Esq' printed in the bottom right hand corner.

I bet he wishes there was, though.

Wouldn't have been my choice in the first place, not even my second, third, fourth....... But, he had to take control of a squad that was only heading in one direction thanks to the boards decision to appoint Lee, and he only had one transfer window to work with. Brought in a couple of what look like very good signings (unlike LSL) but has also been responsible for someabsolute dire performances.

When he came in he had all the cards stacked against him and that was not taken in to consideration by the BWFC 'knee jerk brigade'. But having said all that i'm still to be convinced by the fella.

If this was a school report I would sum it up with - Young gary just kept his nose above the waterline so did what was expected during his first term. But he must improve on his work because standards are high and grades have go to be reached. If this doesn't happen then he will be shafted by bigger boys in the showers.

I will never ever change my mind about this man.

He crossed the line in Lisbon.

His teams play a certain way which is mind numbing to watch. He's tactically inept, unable to motivate and out of his depth at this level.

I'll find better things to do with him in charge.

Seriously, why all the fuss about Lisbon? Would you have liked to be humiliated in the Final like Rangers with a place in the Championship next season? Maybe we arent quite as good as some of us think we are.

What I mean is, if we cant look forward to next season in June then we may as well throw away the keys.

Indeed, i was dissapointed with how things panned out in Lisbon and directly after it, but people talk about it as if he burnt down the Reebok or killed Nat Lofthouse. Really, we'd have never in a million years won the competition and we'd have probably gone down. It was backs to the wall against Boro and Spurs as it was, imagine if we'd been going hell for leather in Florence a couple of days earlier?

I've changed my mind, i'd have had anyone but Megson when he was appointed. But he's proved to be a shrewd move, he kept us up and looks to be trying build a bright future for BWFC so we can sustain ourselves. I just wish people would shut the fcuk up nitpicking and let him get on with it.

didn't want him

within days i decided he wasn't all bad

i think smiffs posted at the time that he interviewed on sky very, very well

he's been positive in almost all his interviews and signed good players

i like the bloke and hope he has the luck to be successful

folk go on about his previous record, yet theres a thread on here worshipping rioch

top of my head, theres not another club than us where rioch left with owt but fans chuffed to see the back of him

Q: What will he (+ the club) need to do/achieve to get everyone back onside?

seeing as plenty weren't 'onside' in seasons we qualified for europe theres nowt megson can do

Top 10?

as i said, top 8 wasn't enough

as i said, top 8 wasn't enough

Well, if we finished at 15th or better and treated both cups with full respect, I'd be content. It would repesent some progress; it might have to be one step at a time.

resign along with fat phil..

Stay in the division and get as far up it as we can. Balls to the Cup's............. unless we fluke it to the semi's then I might even go to one.

resign along with fat phil..

Aside of that, is there nothing he/the club could do/achieve so that you would be happy?

double suicide..

Like most people the jury is still very much out for me.

Don't get the whole Lisbon thing myself, many Bolton fans seem to think that all we had to do was field a decent team in Lisbon and we'd have breezed to the final playing flowing Brazilian style football and lifted the cup with Davies scoring 5 in the final like the class European player he really is.............. had we gone a goal up in lisbon they'd have simply lifted their game and beat us anyway, gone through and we'd have lost to Rangers. Played those extra two games and no doubt we'd have gone down, it was that close.

What got me was the pathetic, gutless manner of our play against Wigan after the Lisbon game, along with the complete lack of tactics. A game so bad that I fell asleep in the first half and didn't go to another game for the rest of the season.

I am still unsure of whether to go to another game as long as he is in charge.

yes he has bought some good players and yes we were below Derby when he took over but what worried me last season and still worries me going forward is that under Megson there were many games that we were still in it at half time, went in for the team talk and came out not only worse but actually demoralised.

I think we will stay up next season but only because the quality of teams coming up is so bad. I do think given three years in charge and this guy could break the club.

Time will tell but I am yet to be convinced by this guy, sacked by Forest, Stoke fans singing Megson for Bolton, hardly the stuff of dreams is it.

I think he can be tactically inept, and it worries me that he has a previous history of falling out with players and staff.

However, he did what he was brought in to do, and made three pivotal signings in January that kept us up. Had he not brought in any one of those three players, we probably wouldn't have survived. Especially Cahill and Taylor.

Like I said in a previous post it's the Lisbon (and other cup competitions) that has left a bad taste in my mouth. Thats not just Megson but the board aswell. At the end of the day, Megson picks the team.

It's not the fact people believe we could have won the UEFA cup thats the problem. It's not even the fact the people believe we should have beat Lisbon. It's the absolute contempt for the fans/competition. And its not just the current manager.

Someone asked in a post above would we rather have been beaten in the UEFA cup final and be relegated or still be in the premier league. The answer for me, as a football supporter, is simple. I would take a European cup final (win or loose) every time. You can always get promoted back to the premier league, as we have done in the past. For a club like ours, a good run in europe will be a lot harder to come by.

If you picked stay in prem, then I think you need to ask yourself why you bother following a team, if your only ambition is to finish 17th, in fact, have considered trying to get a place on the board??

The uefa cup was excellent for the crack and the day out, but it is mickey mouse and in know way should you jeopardise premier league safety for it, all this we can always come back if we get relegated is bollox we are not a big club and have no right to expect to get back into the premier league if we were relegated, my only gripe with lisbon is that we had no options on the bench and the abject performance at wigan, which I think was partly due to the players being upset at not being allowed to travel to Lisbon, I for one can live with the failure in Lisbon because premier league safety means we can spend 5 million on the likes of Muamba and will probably spend another 15 million strengthening the squad.

double suicide..

What is your target for next season then ??

Go.............!

He was employed to keep us up... he did his job.

His next task is to improve on that with a new team, we've rebooted. Success for me this year is to be comfortable mid-table and a decent cup run. The year after, improve again, look to win a cup or push for UEFA again. I'm pleased with the fact he's looking to build a younger side that can stay together for a few years and be added to, rather than Allardyce's "it'll do for now" signings.

Bolton fans are only happy when there's something to moan about, so no matter what he does he'll never be onside with the majority.

tyler, i don't think a club like us can actually get into this long term planning

if theyre very good, we'll lose em, sad to say

so you still end up with turning over the team every summer
