What I couldn't believe this afternoon was I was listening in on GMR and they cut from us to another game and the commentator came out with the following line:-

"there are more holes in the defence than a spanish airplane" :nea:

Yes i heard that too, it makes Rodney Marsh's tsunami joke look tame. Absolutely unbelievable. :nea:

I thought I heard him say that but was too shocked to believe he had said it - absolute tosser

I'm not too disappointed with the game result today. I think Elmander todays only went off with a dead leg or a minor injury which shouldn't keep him out. We seemed to deal well with Newcastle going forward. St James's park is a very tough place to go to, it was their 1st home game of the season and we restricted them to only a few chances but also created several goalscoring opportunities of our own (even without Elmander).

I'm disappointed with Riga not coming on earlier than he did. Waiting until the 85th minute when your 1-0 down is a bit sill yas you've nothing to loose, although i personally would liked to hae seen him come on when Elmander went off - moving Davies into the centre and playing Riga on the wide right where Davies was playing.

I think Taylor must have had another dissappointing game as he came off early in the 2nd half for Gardner. I was hoping Taylor would be taking our penalties as he is the only recognised player in the team who can take them (i've never seen Davies take a pen before ever!), although i'm sure Elmander would have taken it had he been on. We missed a few good chances towards the end with Davies and Nolan twice going close.

I think where we come this season will be judged on our home form and nicking the odd points away by being solid, tough to break down on the road and hoping to get teams on the break or from set pieces. With West Brom loosing at home today (2 defeats on the trot for them) hopefully their confidence will be knocked a bit and we can pick up 3 points against them. I think with some of the players in their team in the middle and the suspect defending from the today we should be looking to overpower them.

We have a game against Northampton on Tuesday in the League Cup. Hoping to see some of the fringe/new players i.e. Shittu, Dzemaili, Riga, Helgusson, Vaz Te etc having a run out and putting in good performances to challenge for next week. If Elmander is fit i think it would be good for him to play and get more minuted under his belt and maybe getting on the score sheet and building more confidence

and have some league 1 carthorse defender kick him for 90 mins, no thanks!!!!

Good Lord YW in sensible post shiocker!

Tuesdays team has to include those who were on the bench yesterday if we're to use them in the prem at any point.

Football must be up shit creek in the North West. The last comment will be all the more apt given GMR covered the Gay Parade in M/Cr rather than first half of Toon vs Bolton.

When they did cover it, the second. Said we'd been the better side till the penalty miss. Toon then had the better of the next 15 mins which concurs what has already been said. Nolan missed a great chance to equalise this after Milner should have put the game out of reach. However Davies scored in the 88th but was disallowed, I hope they show it on MOTD as neither Jack Dearden & Alan Gowling could say why & they'd watched it again on the replay.

From talking to friends at the game, Nolan's miss brought the crowd into the game & nothing changes games like goals. Nolan scores & its a different game c'est la vie

no they didn't

plenty of positives yesterday, chances created not taken, thought McCann coming on for Elamander gave out game plan away too early, Riga was surely a better choice?

Megson is digging his own grave if yesterdays decisions were anything to go off. He completley fucked up. Why the fcuk mccann came on instead of Riga is a joke! 3 defensive midfielders in one team! He brings Riga on for last 5 and half minutes and guess what? he looked sharp and is a threat.

Agreed!Bringing McCann on seems to be Megson's only answer every week.Last week we should have brought Riga on and tried to score a few more against Stoke. If it comes down to goal difference at the end of the season we could suffer.

I think they did on dab. FM had the full match.

Jimmy Bullard was awesome for Fulham but when Megson states he could never envisage picking a team without Nolan then I feel we have big problems & it is pointless buying any more midfielders until he gets real. Without Elmander we are clueless at opening defences & flare players like Gardner & Riga must play.

Are flare players the ones who wear kipper ties and trousers of that name after the game?

No They are the ones that attract fans to watch entertaining attractive football, Sadly it is not only Bolton with this problem as the National is just as bad, hence the empty seats at the Reebok & Wembley.

Newcastle have "flare" players, but they were 5,000 under capacity (lowest league attendance since they increased capacity?)

Anyway in Bolton, it's spelt "flur"

Even they realised how Bolton would play!

But in fairness I feel with Elmander's ability we woulld have won that match & let us hope he is not badly injured & can take penalties!

Any news on his injury?

I love it when people talk like they know more about the game than people who've played and now manage.

If he did state that then i agree with you.

Nice lad, loves the club, dad's sociable etc....but a player with limited ability. He did well as a workhorse who chipped in with a few goals when we had better players a few seasons ago,but to base the team around him will be a mistake.

100% CORRECT!Take note Megson!

exactly

especially when everything i've seen and read suggests we played very well

megson is the only one who knows the fitness of riga

do folk really think if we had messi at our disposal megson wouldn't pick him

i've seen a little bit of what riga did yesterday and it looks promising

i want him to do it for the rest of the season

not for two games now and not play again for months

its moan, moan, moan, just cos its megson

if nolan scores that penalty, we win and we're top of the league

That's ok but he didn't score the penalty!

Up to now Megson is doing a reasonable job but he must move us up a level. He has bought good players but he must have the confidence to attack teams.

Even if we had Messi according to our manager he would be playing alongside Nolan & who knows it may be a great partnership.

But it is wrong to think that a supporters opinion cannot be on a par with that of a manager etc as there are some pretty intelligent folk on these sites which is more than can be said for some players & managers!

After 48 years of watching BW I am able to make a pretty good assessment of a player's ability as are the majority of fans.

But it is wrong to think that a supporters opinion cannot be on a par with that of a manager etc as there are some pretty intelligent folk on these sites which is more than can be said for some players & managers!

Really? Our opinions are all valid, but as for whether we know more than someone who does it for a living, I think that I'm intelligent enough to know I know very little compared to the majority of players & managers.

I would like to think after 30 years i could spot a shit player from a good one

and weather some decision's made by are manager are right or wrong :pardon:

I didn't say that, do you honestly think you have a greater knowledge than most managers? I can do the above BUT technically, fitness wise etc, does the man in the pub know more? I'd say no.

We can all do that, we all have opinions on players, formations, managers etc. we've all seen enough of the game to know the basics. Anyone can say "he got that wrong" with hindsight.

BUT we don't know what goes on behind closed doors and many other factors going into the decision making process. Our "decisions" will never be implemented by a team playing pub football let alone in one of the top leagues in the world so we will never find out if there is a massive flaw in them (there almost certainly is). None of you could do my job and conversely I couldn't do yours.

When someone says "until he gets real" in reference to Megson, you really have 2 options: 1) Jose Mourinho has registered on WW 2) they are a plum. I know where my money is.

End of the day, Megson can't win. People have already made their minds up about him.

Yes as decisions go sending Riga on for 5 minutes was a master stroke. What purpose did it serve?

If Megson ahad brought Riga on and we'd benn ripped to bits down the right hand side Megson would've been chastised for bringing on someone with no prem experience instead of keeping it tight.

Megson can't win, some morons spend 90 mins wanting Bolton to lose so they can slag off the manager/team/ticket office/tea lady.

Edit:Oh and last season BWFC - Nolan = Championship Football this seasopn
