August 27, 200817 yr Can anyone else remember an opposition player being applauded off the pitch before? Apart from when they've been stretcherd off obviously. Fair play to the lad played with 12 stitches in his noggin and could've had a hat trick.

August 27, 200817 yr remeber ruud gullitt being applauded on the pitch at half time when chelsea played at burnden, the next day a national newspaper said they were monkey chants aimed at ruud gullitt, must have been the first season in the prem.
August 27, 200817 yr worth a punt? No he couldn't cut it at Bristol City after being signed from torquay. One hit wonder against a piss poor Bolton side

He did get applauded in a game at Burnden. Can't remember if it was the first Premiership season or the League Cup game the year after. The "racist" accusations were made by Jonathan Pearce during a game at the Reebok, and subsequently carried by a couple of newspapers the following day. Edited August 27, 200817 yr by enzo gambaro
August 27, 200817 yr Eidur got a near standing ovation when Chelsea won the league at our place, and i remember Claus got clapped off for getting sent off for Fulham against us. Akinfenwa is the first time in years i can remember an opposition player being clapped off who didn't used to play for us though. He should have had about 6.
August 27, 200817 yr Never sure why Jensen is held in such esteem. Unfulfilled talent and went missing a lot. Because he kept his gob shut and was sold without asking to be transferred makes him some kind of deity. Clapping an opposing player (for their performance that day) doesnt happen that often. Usually they would need to be substituted for the opportunity.

May be getting old and senile, but was it not 97 as player manager.

August 27, 200817 yr The so-called abuse might have been, the applause was definitely at Burnden. You are definately correct Mr Enzo. My mistake, senility. League cup year before is my final answer.
August 27, 200817 yr Eidur got a near standing ovation when Chelsea won the league at our place He also got a standing ovation from the Bolton supporters at Stamford Bridge when Chelsea beat us 5-0, or was it 5-1?
August 27, 200817 yr worth a punt? To be fair, he's a good League One player and he got the better of another good League One player, Shittu!
August 27, 200817 yr The so-called abuse might have been, the applause was definitely at Burnden. I was in the east lower when Gullit got clapped on the pitch (and looked very confused as a result) so must have been '97 as thats the only season I sat there. Maybe he was clapped at Burnden to?

Maybe he was clapped at Burnden to? Almost sure it was a league game we won 1-0, think we scored from a free kick cant remember who took it though
August 28, 200817 yr Not worth a punt at all Had a good game against us, the fact that seven (yes seven) times we left him one on one against Shittu with the obvious consequences allowed him to have a good game! week in week out in the premiership - no chance!
