Javlon Campbell continued his superb form with a goal in each half to secure an impressive 2-1 victory over Leeds United.

 

The first-year scholar now has five goals in three games following his double in the U18s victory over Nottingham Forest last weekend and his strike for the Reserves against Newcastle United in midweek.

 

After Sam Jerome opened the scoring for the Yorkshiremen with a close-range finish, the Jamaica-born striker inspired his team with two predatory goals.

 

Campbell's first came just before the break when Leeds failed to clear their lines before he grabbed what proved to be the winner in the second half with a neat finish from a corner.

 

Coach Peter Farrell was again pleased with the U18s performance for a second week in succession and is hoping that his players can continue to operate with a winning mentality.

 

He enthused: "It was a very good result and the lads did really well. We passed the ball around well, everyone worked hard and I was impressed with the desire, commitment, attitude and discipline.

 

"It's always nice to win by three or four goals, but as a coach it's sometime nice to see your team go behind because then it's a test of the lads' character and mental strength. Their heads didn't drop when they went 1-0 down and when they got the equaliser they knew that they were going to go on and win the game.

 

"There's a lot of confidence around the place at the moment and we are trying to install that winning mentality.

 

"It was an overall team effort on Saturday. Michael O'Halloran did really well as did Grant Spencer, while Tom Eckersley and David Gbemie were superb at the back.

 

"We've had a couple of injuries with Joe Riley and Danny Ward, so I managed to get Danny on at half-time and Joe on for the last 30 minutes, so it was nice to see them come back.

 

"I was a little bit worried with Javlon stepping up to the Reserves last week, especially with him being a first year, however he's played really well in and that's not just his goals but all-round performances.

 

"He's got the potential to go on at this club, but to be honest I could probably name half a dozen who could go on to play for the first team. It's just keeping that desire and mental strength whilst also looking after themselves and remaining professional on-and-off the pitch.

 

"I'm pleased with what I've seen so far this season. We've only lost one, won two and drew two, so having eight points is a good start.

 

"Hopefully we can through the season only losing a few games, but we need to go into every match with the attitude that we are not going to

 

lose. A good start has been important and it's given the lads a lot of confidence."

sounds quite promisng for a change, campbell and odabeyi up front could be the future, let us hope they are going to be premiership quality.

No way. Someone at the club coaches any natural ability out of a player.

He's right you know, unfortunately. Very rarely do any "home grown" players ever get to make it though these days, and I don't see that changing anytime soon, unless they introduce some sort of law about it..............which they won't.

Let's hope this Javlon Campbell can spearhead the attack in years to come.

is it two acadamy players, or two players who have come through the acadamy, as we already have some of them (Nolan, Hunt and Vaz T?....possibly Fojut as well) - I don't see the FA insisiting that teams have to have a couple of 16/17 year olds on the bench surely

It's two players, under the age of 21. who have come through the academy. And it'll never be implemented.
