Attractive Football?

out of interest, was yesterdays football on offer up to people 'footballing' standards?

imo, in the last 3 home we've played blackburn, everton and city. All have played as equally bad (even worse) football than us.

my point is that lots of other teams are equally bad as us, yet the stigma is only placed against bolton wanderers for some reason.

im sick of hearing other fans saying, "that was a terrible game to watch". well beleive or not mate, your teams games hardly make me dribble in my pants.

my thoughts are that people are comparing us against the bug 4 teams that are on telly week in and week out, and their own team who obviously are more intresting to them.

thoughts please.

As we driving to the game yesterday i mentioned how good Chelsea were on saturday and how

i would love us to score just one good goal as they seem to do frequently,

i got my wish in the 77 minute, great goal by us that was.

I don't think it is that, but that with the Prem bringing so many good, fit players to the country, most teams just cancel each other out.

I have no problem with our 2nd half performances against Everton/Arsenal and City and the perormance against stoke, but the blackburn and in particular the West brom games were dire, I put that down to the 5 in midfield being to similar and the manager not changing the players or formations.

I agree, many teams' fans are very quick to pigeon hole Boltons style without looking at themselves. In the Prem apart from Arsenal, Tottenham, Man Utd, West Ham and Chelsea (without Drogba) all other teams play 'direct' football whatever that means. We are saddled with the 'ugly football' tag from Allardyce's reign, its the only way the press can justify a little club like ours beating the fashionable ones and the fans go along with it. Saying that City werent direct, just shite.

Chelsea play more direct with Drogba than without him.

i watched the Everton Flum game on Saturday that was as dull as dishwater.

lots of passing but no real action.

I also appear to have been brainwashed into the BWFC way of thinking. Whenever a team gets a free kick on the half way line and doesn't pump it inot the box i find myself thinking that it was a wasted set piece

Chelsea play more direct with Drogba than without him.

Thats what I said.

There's no 2 ways about it, people label us 'boring' and 'direct' but 90% of them never watch us.

There are a few exceptions in the media who realise, especially under Sam, we played good football too - Hansen and Andy Gray mainly. We just took care over our set plays and we were an aggressive team without the ball. In other words we did the basics some teams with 'better players' sadly lack (Spurs, Newcastle etc). Combined with good players, that made us one of the better teams around.

Most of the teams in mid-table and below play a pretty negative style of football. Co-incidence or necessity?

There's no 2 ways about it, people label us 'boring' and 'direct' but 90% of them never watch us.

And that's just our fans.

Unfortunately you are comparing a Bolton home performance with an away performance from those 3 teams. Most teams are more attacking at home.

Bolton's last 3 home games have ended 0-0,0-1 and 2-0.

Man City's last 3 have ended 6-0,2-3 and 3-0

If goals make for entertainment then the results suggest Man City fans get more of it than Bolton fans.

sometimes poor games can be masked by goals even if they are goalmouth scrambles following a hoof into the penalty area. Up to 60 mins gone in yesterdays the game was as dull as dishwater for me and probably 99% of neutrals watching it. Both sets of players were too timid going forward and were locked in midfield ping pong. We then put together 3 moves of passing and running off the ball, two of which led to goals which was good football.

good games for me are those when one or both sides commit players forward when in possession, pass and move and create genuine chances on a regular basis, say one every 6 - 7 minutes of a game.

I agree though that many sides coming to the reebok dont look much better, but then the emphasis is on the home side to attack. Playing 4-5-1 as the home side when the midfield are scared to commit to forward runs leads to dismal negative games.

hmm, tis a good point...

but games ive seen on telly (ie everton v fulham) are just as crap as any of our games imo

to me, a game that is end to end is very much because neither midlfield are their doing the defensive job properly.

and although it maybe good for the punters, i doubt ANY manager would like his team involved in that every week.

that sounds great! is it true?

i read yesterday that according to opta stats hull city have played more long balls into the penalty area than any other team which given that PB is in charge is not a surprise but EVERYBODY loves them because they are playing the plucky no hopers giving the big boys a bloody nose. a role, of course that we played so brilliantly for several years...until the novelty wore off the pundits and the opposition managers AND our supporters who realised that whilst it was fun for a while its actually really ugly to watch and when you try to take the next step forward its not that easy. ergo big sam got stale, supporters got restless at being not quite the greatest `small` club to reach the champions league and the rest is history.

so what of Megson? an impossible task! even allardyce couldnt recreate what he did the first time because the noveltys gone and we wouldnt put up with the dull biz that was being served up.

I think we will finish better than 15th which in a year of change, bedding in new players is satisfactory.

Many people will say they will be happy with mid table but finishing mid table means you will lose a lot of games, draw a good few games and win a few games...which is what we are doing. it always amazes me how people can`t seem to get their heads round that.

of course there is such a thing as attractive football

just because we don't play it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist

like nymphomatic swedish bi-sexuals girls

i've never met them, but i've seen a lot of evidence to suggest they are out there somewhere

To be honest watching Dunne trip over his own feet and put the ball in for the second was not beautiful, but it was good enough for me.

A load of fancy dan foreign players who can flick the ball over their head but dont want to know when it is cold aint that pretty either.

effort commitment and winning that is what matters.

forget the effort and commitment

tisa point though

i remember atime when bolton fans would've put up with the effort and commitment

now we seem to need all 3

The majority of the "bottom 16" play fairly average football most of the time.

forget the effort and commitment

the effort and commitment was no more on sunday than weds.

yet i felt better on sunday so winning does matter.

Well said that man =D> =D> =D>

i agree

and that was my point

our effort and commitment was easily forgotten by most in their haste to post how shite we were and how shite megson was

me, i'll forgive all sorts if i see em try

300025847_9919403228.jpg

sign the fookin lot of em, ground would be full!

now thats attractive football !! :yahoo: !

disagree about that. There were games in which I thought we played some fantastic football. Bolton v man u at home 2003 1-1.

dunno what the above has to do with the original question. If you found the games v blackburn and the first hour yesterday riveting and entertaining then whatever rocks your boat. winning games or getting enough points in a season to survive in the premier was ok for two seasons but not for me anymore. perhaps thats why i gave up the ST after 31 years. Effort and workrate come low on my list, thats probably why I miss our foreign mercenaries.
