Me too. I find it pathetic that all the "Vote Yes" groups use billboards portraying people who probably won't ever cross the charge zones during the peak time anyway!

Anybody get sent that letter with all the 'propaganda' in saying 'they sent this so we know the facts' before voting & also the little pamphlet from the folks saying it'll cost us ?1200?

because the train fares will be bumped up eventually, costing more than they are no.. so either way we all lose out. pay extortionate prices for car travelling, or extortionate prices on cramped trains which arent on time

This vote is a sham anyway.........................Despite the vote it will come in, no question. The goverment and local governament need to be seen to give us plebians the vote, but it will be totally irrelivant.

if they improve public transport, have regular and more trains, for the same price, i wouldnt be that mithered.

 

but i know for a fact that they are going to increase the prices for train travel, the trains will be more cramped than they are now, so my vote for a big fat juicy NO remains

The last time they improved the trains, they sacrificed 2/3rds of an already packed carriage to stick a usually empty 1st class section in meaning less room for the common folk.

 

They are retards and if they get this money, they will make an utter bollocks of it anyway. Everything will go hideously over budget and guess who will have to foot the bill...

My big worry in the whole of this is whether I pay 1200 a year to get to work will be decided by people in Rochdale, Bury etc who never ever go to Manchester or use public transport.

aye, we were having a discussion about this in the office today

 

lad at work for some reason drives in from warrington everyday

 

so to add to the congestion charge to his commute and travel costs really does f?ck him off (and to be fair to him, when he started the company were based in cheshire, not manchester)

 

but does he get a say, no

 

as the adverts tell us, 9 out of 10 won't pay it, which leaves the vote in the hands of people who won't be affected because either a) they won't ever pay it or won't get the improvements promised

 

pointless going to a vote anyway

It is a good point. The people of Rochdale, Oldham, Ashton-u-Lyne, and small towns on the routes there from Manchester will be getting shiney new trams. The people of Bolton, Wigan, Leigh, will get bugger all out of this apart from a splash of paint in railway stations and "Rapid Transit Bus Routes" into Manchester which, by the way, will take up 50% of existing roadways thus piling more pressure on our road system!

Bury are very much against it - they already have a tram link, faster bendy buses and have half of the borough in the outer zone and half out of it.

Bury Council are one of the 3 local areas that have gone on record as supporting the NO vote.

 

 

For me, I am unsure. I don't go inside the M60 now, so it won't cost me anything. Even if it does come in, it is only peak time only and only in one direction. If this gives me a tram stop outside my front door that drops off outside our factory gate - then count me in.

Listened to the debate on Beswick last Friday....listening to the leader of the TIF proposal he was an absolute d?ck.

 

Couple of interesting things...

 

The research is all based on modelling rather than polling the man on the street seeing what travel patterns we all have.

 

I don't believe anything is in the contract with these companies laying on extra bus services, carriages etc for holding ticket cost either, so when everyone ends up relying on public transport and the price goes up you will well and truly be f?cked.

Interesting point this. We're not London, and we don't all live in a conurbation which does not & probably never will have good network connections. I'm not complaining, I'd hate to live in a City again. it's just when we have no reasonable alternatives when going into Manchester, then why expect us to say yes and be happy to pay a premium.

Doesn't affect me the TIF charge, but if it did and I had to sit on a bus next to smelly people I'd have to pack the job in.
