Nail on the head.

Why the fcuk people rate Steinsson so highly compared to Hunt is beyond me. Both have defensive lapses, both have a decent cross on them, and both can't head the ball.

I like Steinsson, but he is massively overrated, and sometimes has games where he gets ripped to shreds. He's having a very average season so far.

Nicky Hunt however is very underrated, and more than capable of being a Premiership regular. Some people just like to jump on the bandwagon.

I agree. And that's why he's gone out on loan to the Championship.

Hunt was the worst defender we had - FACT

He has been replaced by a better overall player - FACT

He will be on a decent amount of money and would only play if Steinson got injured. Sinclair can do the same job as nicky hunt has done, saving the club a lot of money for someone who has played the same amount of premiership football this season as I have.

Based on what exactly?

Rather have Steinsson in the side than Hunt, but he's a perfectly adequate backup. Only let him go if he wants 1st team football (which at his age he should) and we get a couple of million for him.

Hunt was given stick that he didn't deserve IMO, BUT he was the weak link in our defence.

Steinsson was brought in and is (again IMO) far better than Hunt.

Yes he has defensive lapses, but nowhere near as many as Hunt used to, and he is brilliant going forward.

I agree that Hunt would be good as back up, but we aren't a top 4 team that can afford to have very decent cover in every position.

Hunt would never be our number 1 with Steinsson here and would only play in the few games a year that Steinsson is injured or suspended.

There are other players that can cover at right back for the odd game.

If we can get a couple of million for him, and free up his wages in January then I think it would be the best option, and I would wish the lad all the best where ever he goes (unless it's the dingles).

hunt must be worth 2m of anyones money...

rather we kept him, but no probs if he wanted to find 1st team footy.

2 million wouldn't buy Hunt.

And I'm one of them!

Horwich J-Lloyd would do a better job @ right back!

With him and Aamir Khan out of Bolton, the roads just got safer by about 90%

John O'Kane was the worst for me, absolute gash he were

John O'Kane was the worst for me, absolute gash he were

"oh john okane he's not a munich anymore" - that song was the only good thing about him

Based on me watching him in the reserves!

ray charles is a better judge than you

Based on me watching him in the reserves!

I'm sure you've seen more of him than I have, but comparing a few reserve games to a player with 127 Premiership appearances is a bit of a stretch don't you think?

Hunt was on the bench at Brum today

And they had Ridgewell out injured so they were a defender light

Maybe Hunt had a knock or summat, I don't know to be honest

I'm not saying he is a better player, just saying he could do the same job hunt has done for us this season.

As you may (or probably dont ) know, <_< being from westhoughton ive stuck up for Hunt on many a time when any one and all on here have been blaming him for just about anything wrong in British society. However, Steinnsen is pure magic compared to the howfen golden boy.

If Steinsson is out then Samuel will probably move to Right back and Gardner drop to left back.

As for the question of keeping Hunt or O'Brien as squad players to come off the bench O'Brien has the benefit of being more versatile, though with 7 subs I suppose it is less important now.

This "squad is too thin and getting thinner" is shite for a club of our size and financial structure.

We can't keep two right-backs in our squad who are both on Premiership wages - especially when the second choice player can't play in any other positions. Our back-up left back is currently in the team as a midfiled player on merit - Hunt has been farmed out on loan as he is fcuk all use in any other position.

JOB and Sinclair are more than adequate back-up options for right back.

I do though agree with a few, that Hunt has been unlucky. IMO he is better than Steinson going forward (ok then - on a par). Defensively, Steinson has tightened his game up of late, but during our bad run in November he was looking as dodgy as Hunt.

There isn't as much between Hunt and Steinson as many think. The main difference is that Steinson is a Megson signing and cost a lot of money - Hunt didn't on both counts.

Didn't/Hasn't Hunt played for England U-21's as a centre half?

Or did I imagine that?

He did and on a few occassions.

The fact our last two managers (I ignore the small page boy in that count) are strong defensive minded chaps and have never played Hunt in that position, seems to indicate that it was not a good idea.

He has but just to trump that though....

Don't forget though that Joey O'Brien has got a full international cap playing centre half for Eire against Germany!

To my way of thinking Hunt is on big money thanks to Sammy Lee giving him a much improved contract - but is not fancied by Megson - hence we signed Gretar.

We therefore have to right full backs - on top wages - signed for the next three years - with only one ever going to play at any one time.

Putting it brutaly Hunt needs to be taken off the wage bill so as to pay some incomming players wages - it is not therefore a question as to how good / bad

Putting it bluntly Hunt needs to be taken off the wage bill so as to pay some incoming players wages - it is not therefore a question as to how good / bad Hunt is or what other positions he can play.

Steinsson is Megson's first choice in the right back position so Hunt is to go simply because of how much he is currently earning!

Neither Hunt or O'Brien will be regular starters - both Hunt and O'Brien can fill in at right back - O'Brien is much cheaper - O'Brien will be kept, Hunt will be let go - it's simply the economic facts of life these days.
