Guest westmidswhite Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 who said 'good' job, i said 'respectable'. at the moment we are heading for mediocrity. which is an improvement on relegation scrap in my book. We are 3 points from the drop position - we are in a relegation scrap whether you like it or not and our confidence is VERY LOW Watch Blackburn turn it round now with BSA City, Newcastle, Sunderland, Spurs will all be OK so there are only about 5 clubs in trouble and we are one of them. Dont think anyone wants to come to our club with Megson as manager also so we are in real trouble
HomerJay Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 what makes you think City, Newcastle, Sunderland, Spurs will be ok??
Guest westmidswhite Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 what makes you think City, Newcastle, Sunderland, Spurs will be ok?? Because they have quality in their side and have funds to buy

Man_Walking_Dog Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 (edited) Because they have quality in their side and have funds to buy don't make me laugh! anyway if that is the case they will all end up above us come May won't they ? i don't think we will go down but i don't expect sunderland, spurs, city and newcastle to all end up above us. and if they dont then this will make megson, and bwfc, far better than the clubs who have 'quality' and money in their team. please feel free to bring this thread up again at the end of the season. bolty58 Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 (edited) It is funny how attitudes change with a couple of wins or defeats. Talk about a roller coaster ride as a football club manager! I am no big fan of Mr. Megson although he has grown on me. There is one inescapable fact - which clubs have the most success and which are a laughing stock. Most success - those who stay stable with the same manager for a long period (Ferguson; Wenger; Allardyce at Bolton). Laughing stock - Newcastle who change managers every five minutes. Having said that, I am with Mounts on this one. Megson to stay until the end of the season - start the search for the new man now and appoint him immediately the season is over. Wait until City sack Hughes and put him on a retainer until June 1st. Edited January 4, 2009 by bolty58
H Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Slavin Bilic will be free early next season. Any takers ?
Guest Biff Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Yesterday was one of the worst games I have seen. Sunderland were no great shakes either. Bolton may have done better if the sizeable idiot support who went had decided to cheer for Bolton instead of shouting for Diouff and singing the Diouf version of Amarillo. Get behind our players. There were enough Sunderland supporters to cheer on their players.

glennboltw Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Alan Gowling stated after the match finished that at times during the match he didn't think Bolton were even interested in progressing in the FA Cup. I was at the match and I did not think the players were interested, Can't blame Mr Megson for lack of effort from the players, he picked a strong team. Don't start blaming Megson for not being able to motivate the team if they can't motivate themselves to play for BWFC then they should not be with us at all. Some fans are too quick to get on the managers back, if you was at the match yesterday you would realise it is sometimes the players FAULT!!!

Zozzy Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I am getting sick of having to state the obvious over and over. When Megson came to the cub we were odds-on with the bookies to get relegated. The previous manager had lost the dressing room and the players were deflated and not motivated. Important players e.g. Jussi were on the verge of leaving the club if we didn't appoint someone quickly who could stabilize the ship. Megson bought really well at the first opportunity, which was the key to Premiership survival. stating the obvious = we were bottom of the league even below Derby County when he arrived = even the best managers around such as Wenger or Sir Alex wouldn't have expected to keep us from relegation from that position. To suggest that he should be sacked at the end of the season even if we are still in the Prem next season is absurd. On the subject of whether he is an attacking or defensive tactician, being 2 goals in the first two minutes against Pompey and being a goal up against Arsenal tells a story, not to mention our away goals tally so far. My criticisms of Megson include his media image and communication skills to the fans. If you are calling for his head, at least be honest about the reasons for it, and stop pretending it is because of his win record at a club of our size with the financial restraints that go with it, or the quality of players he has bought, or the myth that he is over defensive, because he has passed all of these so far in the short time he has been here. Finally if they were casting for the new James Bond they would surely pick Mourinho or even Campo before Gary Megson. Am I getting close to why some people are slagging him off so much? Is it an 'Image' before 'substance' thing?
Zozzy Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Is there any chance that a Mod (maybe Carlos) can tidy this thread up by deleting the drivel please, it is off topic and spoiling the discussion. including this that I have just written sorry if it is not possible

fruitbat69 Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 For me Gary Megson picks his strongest line up possible for the Fa cup and we lose by the odd goal away to team bang in form who have bags of confidence from when we played them in November. I was half expecting him to field his u11's. So he plays his strongest team and gets slagged off,if he'd played his reserves and got beat he would have been slagged off as well. I don't like Megson anymore than anyone else but the guy can't win Still can't understand why he didn't do this in Lisbon though

Also can I say that Big Sam played his fringe players in all of the Uefa Cup matches as well, but didn't get slagged off as much as Megson is for doing the same thing. Also don't forget that if we had lost against Bayern Mun?ch we would have got knocked out at the group stage before Madrid or Lisbon. Every Bolton fan(if they had been manager) would have picked a Bolton side that would have lost that match in Mun?ch and we would have never been able to travel to Madrid or Lisbon. We were all pissed off after Lisbon but we still went out to win the match with the second string just like we did in Germany, and he should have some credit for getting us that far.

And it looks like more of the same last two games

You'd also have been disappointed if he'd swapped one of the forwards and still lost. Isn't hindsight great? With too many "supporters" Megson is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't!
tyldesley_white Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Right I will ask the same question I asked a while back and did not get a answer. 'IF' we sack Megson who are you going to replace him with, I dont want names that will never come to the Reebok but names in your opinion will do a better job with the players and money available then Megson is doing at the moment. I will add, I'm no fan of Megsons but I'm also realistic on what I expect for BWFC, its been said many times we over achived under Sam we are now in the position rightly or wrongly where we should be, this of course does not stop people dreaming but you have to be realistic
