Some one on the BBC 606 site posted the following - I don't know how true it is - but it seems plausable to me.

Burnden Leisure PLC yearly Trading Report for accounting period Jul-2007 to Jul-2008

Selected financial figures (in mils)

- Turnover: 59.1 (2007 - 51.1), due to increased broadcasting revenue, up 9mil on prevoius year.

- Operating Loss: 8.4 (2007 - 2.1)- Net Debt Level: 53.5 (2007 - 43.1)

- Assets (Fixed & intangible): 88.2 (2007 - 66.3), reflected mainly by that fact we own more of our playing staff.

- Directors Loans 0.4 (2007 - 0.4), anything Eddie has lent us must be after Jul-2008.

Regarding debt -

Amount due within 1 year - 26mil

Amount due between year 1 & 2 - 5.9mil

Amount due between year 2 & 5 - 11.2mil

Amount due after 5 - 8.4mil.

I think I'm a bit thick, as none of that really means very much to me.

I am suprised that our debt has increased by over ?10M though

Boltondiver's going to scan and post the actual figures when he gets them.

That should clear things up.

No your not Ani, to be honest they probably do not mean much to anyone but an accountant.

Having debt is not a worry just so long that you are able to pay it back when you need to.

From the above figures in looks like we have to pay ?26 million back within the next 12 months - but we don't know if the money we got from the big Sky TV package (an average of ?45 million per club apparently) for the 2007/8 season were fully paid into these accounts - or into the next years account. If the bulk does fall into next years account (August 2008 to July, 2009) then the debt and the amount we have to pay back within the year would not be such a big problem as it would be if we have had already received the money and it had been included the accounts shown above.

I guess the club isn't in a financial mess as we would not be buying anyone in this transfer window if we were.

An average of ?45m for each club is not enough info.

If Man Utd, as the highest Sky TV cash receiver got (say) ?100m and Stoke as the lowest only got (say) ?10m and the other 18 clubs getting somewhere between the two figures making the average ?45m, then quoting an average amount is neither use nor ornament.

Television revenue for 2007-08 season

(2006-07 in brackets)

Manchester United ?49.3m (?32m)

Chelsea ?45.6m (?30.9m)

Arsenal ?47m (?29m)

Liverpool ?45.4m (?28.4m)

Everton ?42.1m (?25.3m)

Aston Villa ?42.3m (?22m)

Blackburn Rovers ?40.2m (?22m)

Portsmouth ?40.4m (?23m)

Manchester City ?39.7m (?21m)

West Ham United ?36.8m (?21.1m)

Tottenham Hotspur ?36m (?27.3m)

Newcastle United ?39.2m (?21.2m)

Middlesbrough ?34.2m (?20.5m)

Wigan Athletic ?33.4m (?18.4m)

Sunderland ?33.6m (?6.5m*)

Bolton Wanderers ?32m (?24.6m)

Fulham ?31.3m (?20.4m)

Reading ?30.6m (?23.6m)

Birmingham City ?29.8m (?6.5m*)

Derby County ?29.1m (n/a)

Total ?815,175,812 (?502,533,570)

This is paid in three installments. Whether the last of these was paid in time to be included in the last accounts isn't clear, as already mentioned.

an average, off the top of my head of about ?40.5m

Sorry I spoke.

Hey Sluffy, don't get upset about things. I'm just pointing out that using an average when quoting club accounts is very likely to make your sums miles out either in your favour or not.

I'm not upset just having a bit of a laugh with you.

I did qualify remark by putting 'apparently', as my point of reference was from the ever-reliable Wiki -

"The total raised from these deals is more than ?2.7 billion, giving Premier League clubs an average media income from league games of ?45 million a year from 2007 to 2010."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Premier_League#Finances

I guess that if the average was only about ?40.5 million for last season then payments will rise for the next two seasons - possibly an average of say ?45m per club this season and ?49.5 million for next. I wonder if that will be as good as it gets with the contract then having to be renegotiated in the midst of a world recession?

Ah sorry - my mistake.

I'm having a bad day - forgive me.

Any chance of a basic accountancy guide for all the tinheads?

To help you with this task, do it in the example of if you bought 10 bananas at 10p each from bananaman and payed him back at 10% weekly interest rate over 10 weeks.

Cheers.

Much too complicated for me I'm afraid.

But if you are being serious then just think of business financing similar to that of your own household budgeting - you have income (your wage) and expenditure some of which you pay for all the time (fixed) like your rent or mortgage, and some of which you pay now and then (variable) like going to the movies perhaps.

You might want to buy things that you could not afford to get from your savings (like a car for instance) so you borrow the money and promise to pay it back over say three years. You therefore owe money to someone (Creditors) with the money having to be paid at an agreed time in the future.

As long as your money coming in can cover your money going out at the right time (cash flow) you don't have a problem but if you forget to budget for a big bill and don't have the money to pay it when it is due the your wife my have to step in (Administration) and sort your affairs out because the people you owe money too want paying.

You may have to sell your car to help you out but it would not be worth as much as when you first bought it (Depreciation).

Hope that is of some help?

What it basically means, is that our bank(s) seem ok servicing the debt when the level of turnover is at Premiership levels. Hopefully, we will be able to refinance the debts of ?26M that are due this year and anyway, they may well be on an automatic roll-over.

As the mountain of debt clearly illustrates, if we get relegated and turnover drops by say ?20M (the TV revenue less the parachute payments) we are either fcuked are needing Eddie to dig very deep.

As for the operating profit and increase in net debt, this is probably as a result of nett payments made in the year on transfers. For the past few seasons we have roughly been at a breakeven position on operating profit + / - the gain or loss on transfer activitiy.

so, why don't we show some fcuking ambition

eh, eh

This alone should be proof enough that a football club cannot be compared to any other business model

But hey, whats a bit of financial ruin when we could've been in the quarters of a second rate European Cup competition?
