O'brien has proved a good signing, I thought he was awful at newcastle.

Still early days with Puygrenier but he has come in and settled very quickly. Very composed on the ball.

For me I'd prefer slap head but its good to see healthy competition for places.

The way I see it, the french bloke is better with the ball and general distribution, but not as good at tackling. AOB I see as a better tackler, but not too good at distributing it once he has it. Given time, I guess that French bloke will be the better player

...........perhaps in the Campo role?

AOB gives away goals too regularly for my liking, on the other hand that French bloke has looked a bit dodgy as well. Baldy let Parker go for West hams goal last week. I would invest in a decent experienced centre half to play alongside Cahill in the summer.

I agree with that :good:

I don't think we'll see peagreen, smolarek or makkapakkapulu after the end of the season

Can't imagine too many tears being shed on the terraces either.

I was going to post that exactly!

Maybe Makkapakka as i think we paid some for the loan period with the option to buy but would like to see funds invested elsewhere

As far as I understand the Premiership Transfer rules - I believe that every 'loan' signing from abroad must include a sum being paid to the club from which they are being 'loaned' - (I don't know if this sum could be 'nothing' as in a 'free' transfer) - as under the rules the players are classed as 'temporary signings' and not 'loan signings'.

The only loan signings that can be made (under the rules) seems to be from British clubs.

The British 'loan signings' rule seems to be a maximum of two loanees at any one time.

There does not seem to be a limit on foreign 'temporary transfers'.

puygrenier is a classy player

i really hope he can master the defensive side of his game

class act

Maybe I'm mistaken but didn't he come as a defender? what's the idea, we teach him his trade and then he buggers off?

AOB was superb on sunday, inspired decision by megson to play him against his former club.

poogranade will improve once he gets used to the pace, but has too many defensive lapses imo.

Agree with the comments about AOB on Sunday. Thought he had a top game, no nonsense but made some crucial interceptions and blocked the overhead in the last couple of minutes.

Thought last season he was excellent, but over a period of time towards the end of 2008 cost us a number of points through individual errors. He looked in need of a break, got one and appearsto have come back stronger - and knows he has a fight on his hands to play, always good for keeping players on their toes.

Puygrenier looks a much classier player and I think he could come good. However, prone to going walkabout as the West Ham and Tottenham goals showed.

If we are to move up a level this is the type of centre half we need although I'm not sure Puygrenier is the answer. AOB is a solid premiership player but never held a consistent place in a top half side - that tells you it all for me.

Basically Slap Head cost Zenit 7 million and Big Nose cost us 1 million. Enough Said

SKD cost us nothing, Elmander best guess of ?8m to ?10m

So your point is??

the point is that in this case (Big Nose or Slap Head) Slap Head is twice the player and the value reflects this. Im not saying Slap Head is worth 7 million but hes definatly a better player

Puygrenier is clearly the better footballer, but his errors have let AOB back in.

Once(or if) the baldy gets to grips with this league, then he will be first choice.

AOB could still be our centre back in a good side though.

Megson is building something here, even if a lot of people don't appreciate it

On the subject of the best centre back, I am slightly tempted to play Shittu at Stoke.

His last appearance at Arsenal was outstanding and his strong physical play will be needed tomorrow.

I see your point, but I don't think it's a good thing to continually change a defensive 4, especially the 2 centre backs. I think Megson needs to pick Cahill plus 1 and stick with that - building an understanding is half the job with a centre back pair and that won't happen if we keep changing them.

Fully agree, for me tomorrow the temptation is Cahill + Shittu.

Its horses for causes and Shittu is the man tomorrow - especially if Delap is back from suspension.

Zenit are rumoured to want ?6m to make Puygrenier's move permanent.

He'll be going back, then.

I dont think hes worth that much from what I have seen but he does look promising and hopefully he will improve. 3 Mill would be a fairer prices

Shittu has played well in his last two starts
