Did Kevin Davies have a good season last year?

Not sure what this has to do with Elmander but hey, I'll play along.

First though, can you clarify please?

Are you talking about:

- a good last season = 2007/08

- a good last year = 2008

- or did you really mean 2008/09

Of course he did and for most seasons he has been at Bolton.

We know exactly what Davies offers EVERY game for Bolton - surely your not making the same comparisons to Elmander this season?

Yes I am

surely someone who only scored 3 goals couldn't possibly have had a good season?

and what is it that Davies offers us every game that Elmander doesnt?

Is it the fact Kevin Davies goes with the Super song?

You know full well that my comments about Davies were tongue-in-cheek at a time that Davies was struggling for form and not able to hit a barn door.

It was a thread posted at a time on WW when very little was happening and it generated a good discussion.

Elmander on the other hand is a different matter.

January?

during the season and during the transfer window

i cant think of a time when theres more happening on here

you carry on making random things up though, so you can welch on what you say

The thing with Elmander is that we haven't seen enough of him, even you who has seen so much football, in order to work out what his strengths are to BWFC on a consistent basis. And Consistency is the key word, because while he has shown glimpses of the attributes SKD (don't you just love that song, that makes him all the player he is for me) has, there is no way you can compare a seasons contribution between the 2.

And if you really need me to spell out what SKD provides every game to bwfc, for starters you can include, Strength, committment, leadership, application, adaptability to play all across the front line and goal assists. All of which he does on a consistent basis. Goals are a bonus when you have so much to offer. And I would be as complementary about Elmander if he did all those things every game - but didn't we buy him as a goalscorer to complement Davies?

thats certainly not what Megson said

you dont need to tell me what Davies does, im well aware, but people fail to see that Elmander does just as much (obviously not the leadership bit)

obvioulsy though the fans know best and he was bought as a replacement for Anelka and should be scoring 20 a season

in many games this season, daives has failed to hold the ball up consistantly well and failed to complete even 50% passing accuracy

take goals out of it (which is obviously a very large factor) and i think davies only just a better season than elmander.

if people want us to be come less direct, then we need more player slike elmander and less like davies.

saying that, davies stands for all that is bwfc.

Bloody Hell, if you continue to be so iconsistent this thread will go on for another 10 pages! One post you ask me what does Davies offer and when I reply you tell me I don't need to tell you what Davies does! Make your mind up!

So if Elmander isn't going to score goals consistently, for you is it a staright choice between Elmander and Davies next year, or do you play both?

eh now then, don't confuse the lad.

After 10 pages, he is still trying to think of reasons that made him remark that Elmander "has had a good season".

are you stupid?

is there a mark on your monitor that lines up after the bit you quoted, that is making it look like there is a full stop there?

why are you highlighting part of my sentance to change the meaning of what I asked?

Garrp you asked me what does Davies offer that Elmander Doesn't and I answered it.

So I ask again next season are we looking for another striker to complement Elmander, or do we look to play both Elmander and Davies in the same team?

Garp,

This is a bit like what did the Romans do for us ?

Apart from goals, leadership and a genuine physical menace what extra does davies bring to the team when compared to elmander.

The fact about Elmander is that we paid ?8m (at least) for him and he has not perfromed at the level in terms of quality (measured by goals and assists) people would hope for such an expensice buy (by bolton standards)

He does have some attributes and given a run with no injuries and some goals (and therefore confidence) he might come good.

At the moment he has a lot to prove, if he had had a good season we would be having the doors knocked down by people offering ?10m for him.

He is a long way off a total flop and nowhere near a donkey, he did nt pay the fee so it aint his fault but for the same money we got cahill AND taylor.

Elmander is a good player and does contribute to the team, has he been a good buy...not convincec.

for the others, is your problem that we spend too much on elmander or that he does not deserve a place in the team ? the alternative megson has used has been Riga or makapaka !

We play Davies and Elmander in the same team, why do we have to have 2 totally different players up front?

Ani, All I am saying is Davies didnt have the goals last season, some games he went missing and it was like playing with 10 men, but hes immune from criticism because he didnt cost 8 million and Megson didnt sign him.

Im not saying he had a bad season last year, im his biggest fan, but was he so much better last year than Elmander has been this year?

Great post that.

I think we defintely stick with him next year, beacuse I do think, with a good pre season, some creative addition to mid-field and an injury free run behind him he can become the consistent goalscorer (10-15 goals) we need. My worry is if he doesn't find his goalscoring touch have/will we have enough goals in the team? 8 million these days for a striker isn't a massive amount of money - although its a lot for BWFC and the unfortunate comparison with Anelka will be made. But we have to accept he is a different player and we have to learn to play to his stengths. In answer to what should have happened this year, you are absolutely right there hasn't been much of an alternative!

Elmander has had a bad time this season. No doubt about it. I feel that we have seen glimpses here and there that he could possibly come good. These glimpses have been rare though and not what you want from a big money signing so I can understand the frustration felt towards him. But I'm hoping next season he will show us why we paid that kind of money for him. Get him fully fit and free from any niggles pre season and in 2009/2010 I predict a 15 goal return from him. He's gonna show all the commitment of SKD chasing balls down and knocking fcuk outta the opponents and the finishing and movement of that French guy he was signed to replace. He's gonna be our new hero. Sweden flags all over the Reebok. An Abba song played after every goal.......or he might be a load of shit again and we offload him on loan to some crap foreign team in January.

For people that say I just jump down anyones neck who doesnt agree with my opinion, complete rubbish.

DTR disagrees with me that hes had a good season, fair enough

but he doesnt suggest we get shut asap for half of what we paid

he knows that not every single player can come in and do a Fernando Torres in the first season

Yatesy though, if they dont become a contender for World Player of the year withing 3 games suggest we gets rid asap for whatever we can get

Posted

I hope he comes good. For the club so we don't lose a shit load of money. For Elmander too because even though he hasn't done too well up to now he has always seemed a decent kinda fella who has always tried and he seems as dissapointed as we are with the way he's playing. I don't think he has strutted around like some big time charlie so he has my support and i hope he comes good. He has definitely got some good attributes but we need to start playing more to his strengths and maybe the lone striker role isn't benefiting him. Next year is gonna be Elmander year.

(I hope)

Come on now Garrp.

I have watched Elmander all season before coming to my conclusions on the player and the system / formation we are trying to fit him into. He ain't no World Player of the Year and I just can't see him being so - not at Bolton anyway.

As for getting rid "for whatever we can get", I can't recall anybody posting that comment.

I think you are getting a little dizzy with all this now, I swear you nearly started to explain why you think Elmander "has had a good season" a few posts back :good:

Jules, come on in - a few more have joined the fun :drinks:

From what I have seen of him in his 1st season, he's not worth the money we paid for him. He didnt have a good season at all.

Give him till xmas, then get him working behind the kiosks on matchdays.
