16 games without a goal I heard Gowling mention on Saturday. Those who keep saying he will come good, I can see his skills trying to get out, we have faith in him etc etc need to open their eyes.

 

The lad just isn't ever going to fit in at Bolton, he just doesn't fit. He has been given every opportunity this season and apart from a lttle run before Christmas, he has failed to even look like a Premiership forward.

 

I have been willing to accept that he has played his part from time to time this season but fcuk me Mr Nearlyman is getting worse every game he plays.

 

 

If we continue to play him as the lone striker next season we are in for another very long season.

Let's hope that we get an attacking midfielder in the close season who can give him a decent ball down the channels that he could run onto per his goals at Sunderland. There is no point in walloping balls up to him as if we had KD still as the one up front.

 

If we don't , Megson has bought the wrong player. With the right line up, I still think that he could be a success.

Hopefully he comes into next season in similar shape and stays that way, I don't see why he couldn't get up towards 10 goals a season. Certainly not lived upto the price tag this season though

He was brought in on loan as a back up striker and has obviously not settled in and is that fantastic Santander are letting him go to the mighty Aris Saloniki for nowt in the summer.

 

the point in loan players is to see if they're what you want/need and sadly for Ebi it's been seen that he isn't what Gary wants

I agree with that, Adam. He & the team need to find out how to use that work effectively.

In this scenario he would probably have made about the same number of appearances as smolarek, NO chance.

but we've paid the ?8m upwards and a club like Bolton can't afford to just write that off

I do think Elmander's prescence has had a big impact on Davo getting his 12 goals this year

Just because he runs around like a headless chicken does not mean he had a 'good game'. When he's got the ball he's pretty gash, and either loses it or kicks it so far inforont of him, it goes out of play or the keeper collects it.

 

I think another factor is his confidence. He used to shoot at every opertunity and now he looks afraid to do so, bit like Muamba.

I can give or take our two full backs but as mentioned on another thread, I think they are both ending the season quite strongly after struggling during the middle third of the season. Steinnson was easily better then Elmander on Saturday.

This is exactly what is wrong with the modern game - a very low expectation level of what is 'good' from the modern pro.

 

Elmander received the ball from a very good MUAMBA FORWARD ( ) pass and had 70 yards of open green grass to run into. Elmander did superbly well to dribble the ball in the empty space without once losing it, triping over a worm cast or running out of energy. Not once during the 70 yard run did he have to dribble round a defender or hold off a challenge. It was the kind of easy dribble that my 6 year old is doing at his football training.

 

When he gets to the vital part though, the cross to pick out the unmarked Muamba, the pass is poor and is behind the Bolton player. (Now with it being Muamba it worked out a good result as he had to pass rather than shoot).

 

 

Don't get me wrong it was a good stretch of the bambi legs but if you think that a 70 yard dribble with no one to beat and no challenge to hold off is impressive then I can now easily see why you think Elmander "has had a good season".

Which game are you watching? One decent run forward, one shot on target, apart from that his usual anonymous game. Steinsson on the other hand who you fail to mention had an outstanding game in attack and defence. I would also put McCann's efforts and even Muamba's at higher than Elmander.
