Michael Owen

Loads of talk at the moment about where he's going to go and who will have him. Got me thinking, worth a punt?

I'm not sure... I'm aware of all the negatives, his fitness, his desire, whether he's good enough anymore. And I know that at Newcastle he's on ridiculous wages.

But I can't help thinking that at 29 he still has many years ahead of him, and that form is temporary but class is permanent, and he certainly is class.

IF, and it's a massive if, he could somehow prove his fitness, and he took a massive pay cut and was put on a pay as you play basis then I personally would take the gamble (easy for me to say).

I know it's all ifs and buts, and he probably wouldn't want to come to us anyway. But as I am extremely bored with the lack of football, I thought I'd see what other peoples opinions on the once great (and still relatively young) player are.

the interview on SSN

they chuck in a question along the lines of "what do you think about moving to hull"

he goes on "oh, i didn't know about that, it must've emerged this morning, erm, yeah, new one to me that, erm (scratches head)"

reading between the lines i don't think he fancies it

BN reckons we were one of only eight Premiership clubs to receive the said sales document

It is believed Wanderers were one of the eight top-flight clubs to receive a copy of the glossy publication, dreamt up by Owen?s PR advisors as a way of reminding people of his credentials.

I don't think he's good looking.

I don't think he's good looking.

Or sincere

"Clean and Fresh"

Does that mean he changes his pants daily or brushes his gnashers?

"Fit and healthy"

Aye but for how long?

Until 2003

Definatly worth a punt for me with a goal scoring ratio of 0.56 per game I think he's a must buy.

If he plays half a season he will score more than 10

No mention in his sales brochure of him being relegated in 2009. Perhaps it was printed in January

I'd take him. If we keep him fit then he will definately score goals. He could be our first regular english goalscorer since Michael Ricketts :good:

Did Anelka's goals not happen?

Sorry i meant english goalscorer :good:

I can only see him going to Everton, but if we have a chance I think we should be interested, it would have to be on a basic salary linked to goals and appearances.

If we are 1 of 8 clubs that have been sent the brochure then that automatically means that he would come to us. Fair enough we might be his 8th choice out of those 8 but he would still come if none of the other 7 offered him anything.

As long as the likes of Everton and Villa stay away then I can honestly see us having a good chance. None of the big 4 will touch him, City may as well just buy someone, and I doubt Spurs or WHU would be interested as they both seem to favour foriegners at the moment. The only teams left that I think he could possibly choose over us are Fulham, yet that means moving, or Blackburn, but they are even less appealing than us.

or Blackburn, but they are even less appealing than us.

We know why Blackburn is less appealing but dingles, inbreds and 6 fingers prpbably doesn't register with Owen. So why would Owen think Blackburn are less appealing than Bolton?

I've seen Owen play a few times recently and he looks well past it - half-decent defenders have marked him completely out of the game. Throw any stats what you like at it - yes his goal record is good - but, returning to the present, he now looks frightened to death of trying to take a player on, which used to be his trademark, and made him difficult to defend against. He's undoubtedly still a great finisher - once great strikers tend to always have that ability, but it's getting the opportunities that will be a problem, especially in our team. Fowler is a classic case in point - and Lardel, to take the point to its nth degree.

So, for the money that will doubtless be involved, and the not-insignificant fact that he's a crock, I am out. FWIW I think his footballing ego (not listed on his dossier) will exclude us from the running in any case...

So why would Owen think Blackburn are less appealing than Bolton?

Good point that, I would imagine most people outside of Bolton/Blackburn would probably bracket us as the same type of club. If anything, people may think Blackburn the more appealling club, because they have at least won a couple of things in living memory.

As to where will Owen end up.........I reckon he'll bugger off to play pub football in Scotland for one of the big two
