Zico Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Heres the before and after quotes 11th June 'I would like to change the style that we play as I felt that was one of the reasons the club struggled last season. 'We had to take it back a little bit, get the results at times and not play in the way we would have liked. 'There were some really good performances, but some really dour, grinding performances where we've got results. 'But it was all about getting those results.` 10th August 'A lot was made of me changing the style.` 'People might not see a great deal of change to be perfectly honest but what I wanted to do was bring in more of the same with the intention of being able to do certain things better. 'We`re not going to suddenly start playing any differently - the idea is to play the same system, the same style, just with a bit more quality.` Handing ammunition to your opponents is one thing, but Megson has given the keys to the gun cupboard to his foes. from vital football and just to expand on that little: http://www.premierleague.com/page/Headline...1690532,00.html "Hopefully we can use this summer to bring in players who can play a different type of game while still getting the results and maybe more of them." Megson added: "During the last transfer window, we wanted it to be a lot busier. But January is a really difficult time to sign players because most clubs want to hold on to them. "Despite that, we managed to bring Mark Davies in (from Wolves), which we were really pleased about. "The serious work, I feel, in the most important window is going to be this one. We now need to make sure the emphasis is really on bringing them in to help us push on." which basically is saying he hasn't got the attacking options he wanted and now probably won't it was evident in the number of defensive players brought in that things were not going to change in terms of style and he's given plenty for the megson bashers to work with fair do's if he's gone after players with this intention and the deals hadn't come off, like Bodde but "Hopefully we can use this summer to bring in players who can play a different type of game" is not "We`re not going to suddenly start playing any differently - the idea is to play the same system, the same style, just with a bit more quality" am surprised we did not see "we'll go with what we've got" or "we were rock bottom when I took over"
Rembrandt Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 And what kinda style are we talking about ? More width , more compact , on the floor passing , 4-4-2 ? Funny you should say that ....... Is it just me, or have they narrowed the Reebok pitch a little more ?
tyldesley_white Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Funny you should say that ....... Is it just me, or have they narrowed the Reebok pitch a little more ? That will help the back 4 out
BdubFC Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 if you actually read what it said he said I would like to change the style that we play as I felt that was one of the reasons the club struggled last season so what has he done wrong?
superjohnmcginlay Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 if you actually read what it said he said so what has he done wrong? B-dub is your name like how the yanks say GeorgedubBush

bigj Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 It,s obvious to me that what megson said was all bulls**t you cant change the style of the team by bringing in similar players than we already have. And all this sh*t about total football FU*K ME any football will do.
BdubFC Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 B-dub is your name like how the yanks say GeorgedubBush i guess you mean dubya all the yanks i know call me that they aint to good in the brain department ::

So who is sean davis similar to then. Not saying he,s a bad player not saying we didn,t need another centre half. but megson said he was going to change the style of play. How.. when we need a creative player in the middle of the park who can pass a ball to one of our players. And someone to put ball in back of net.

tylswhite Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 The system we play is similar to when Allardyce was in charge but we have less quality players. I have no problem with Megson playing the same system we have been but just improving the players in it. It takes time imo but we should show at least a little improvement from the last couple of seasons if not people will have good reason to doubt him.
bigj Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 can davis not pass the ball? as for ball in the back of the net type players, believe it or not they are quite tough to find. Yes he can. But can he open up defences, because none of our midfielders from last season could. And as for strikers. what would happen if skd got injured in first game( god i hope not). But who do we rely on, we have nobody else..
Zico Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Didn't Sammy Lee try total football for 45 minute against Newcastle? which half? we didn't turn up in the first so I can only presume you mean the 2nd
passmosster Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Yes he can. But can he open up defences, because none of our midfielders from last season could. And as for strikers. what would happen if skd got injured in first game( god i hope not). But who do we rely on, we have nobody else.. 4-5-1 you can only play one striker. Which means Elmander with Davies going up front if it is not working. So any additional striker will probably be a bench warmer/ back up. Difficult to get any experienced player to do that for us. I would like to see this Korean play, but we need someone with a bit of pace for the ball over the top. We don't get defences turning much.
bwdavefc Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 The most noticeable difference in the Hibs game for me was Sean Davis coming deep to get the ball from the back four - something not seen since Campo was around. Last season the back 4 invariably chipped the ball upto to Elmander or K. Davies, with the midfield looking for knock downs, scraps etc. This lead to us being very poor at retaining the ball. Having McCann and Muamba in the middle of the park was one of the reasons, as neither are great passers of the ball. Having someone like Sean Davis and/or Mark Davies available to take the ball and find a white shirt accurately, will only improve this.
superjohnmcginlay Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 We have Mumaba whom will brake up the play, Mark Davies to drive forward and Sean Davies as the ball player then, dont sound too bad
John Thomas Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 That's two words, but I take your point. I'm not Megson bashing here - but just seem to remember him saying he was planning on us playing 'more attractive' football this season. Was looking forward to seeing us start to make the transition this over the next few months. Doesn't look like that's going to happen any time soon judging by his latest comments. Spot on Kent White. He made out that there would be no more dour style football that was so common last season. He's backtracked on his word. Perhaps it was a PR exercise to appease the fans and sell more season tickets. I for one didn't believe it.

Wimmin are known for holding grudges though!
John Thomas Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 So really he's fucked in your eyes then and you just want to see him gone? Wimmin are known for holding grudges though! Who said anything about wanting him gone? Bet you were the first to berate Allardyce when he said he wanted a break from football and then got the Toon job. That was misleading. So when Gary misleads that isn't a problem i guess for you. Hypocrite alert.

Hypocrite alert. How am I a hypocrite when you have no idea what my thoughts are on that (unless you were posting under another name at that time)? Do turn that bollocks in for a start. If you don't believe him then surely, by default, you want him gone. The two lies, if you call thme that, are hardly like for like in the lie stakes, well younless you've already made up your mind & got an agenda. Gaza really doesn't help himself as he gives folk enough fuel.

John Thomas Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 (edited) I think he said 'I would like to change' so therefore hes not backtracked at all So if he said 'he would like to do your girlfriend/wife' you wouldn't have a problem with that, as he said he would only like to'?
