Burnden terrace for the rest, but -

Manny Rd North for the last couple of years.

 

Happy days (well most of 'em).

Hiya mate, no I was a Lever Ender until I was about 20 then Embankment for a couple of years then Burnden Terrace and finished the last few years on Manny Road North, that was the route for a good many of us.

 

F?ckin hell........you must have been following me around... left the lever in around 75 and was in the embankment until 78.Only went in the terrace on a few occasions in 79. played football between 79 and 83 and then was a mannie rd north man until the reebok.

 

I have to say I never saw Millwall run from us and I reckon I would have been there on the last 5 of the 6 home games we played em in the 1970's. If we did run em then there numbers must have been pretty low.

I'm sure that when they came on the Lever End there were only about 10 of them, all wearing black T shirts. That's my memory of it

I recall playing them in a night game, 78 or 79 I think. Maybe even a Milk Cup match or whatever it was called then.

cant remember if was millwall or one of the over shandy drinkers but i remember a dark skined lad saying wot you oh oh ohing at to some bolton under manny rd bridge and he got anwsered with you and then got a slap. allways makes me chuckle . and remember on the docomentry after the luton riot they said bolton was always up though it.

That is correct,think he also said Bolton never run

Glad someone else remembers that.

 

Them that were chased up Bradshawgate stumbled upon the Wood St Social Club and it became a regular haunt for Millwall after that.

 

I"m guessing Millwall fans would have fitted in quite well in Wood St. When pubs had to shut between 3 and 5-30 Wood St, and the Catholic Club were the only bars open ( in town ) and attracted quite a colourful clientele .

Remember a home match 72/73 when a few millwall on the embankment tried to get on pitch to run across to the lever end, but the whole of the lever end ran down to the front to meet and greet, nowt happened. The away match was probably the most frightning match I ever attended. Somebody earlier said we ran them at the den must have been a hell of a turnout from our boys

Remember a coach in 85 (same day as RL Final at Wembley) coming back with no windows.

 

Owd Stags Head face ran it. Not the Orange one.

I bet he'd be the first one in, not daft to do anything in the ground though if you know what I mean

I reckon them two nearest the camera could be police spotters.

When it was kicking off outside Upton Park station,i hear that a train with Millwall fans on was sent to the next station at East Ham where there were no police and they were allowed to make their own way the 2 miles or so to the ground.Imagine that, dozens of Millwall fans allowed to walk from East Ham to Upton Park.

Sounds like the match was underpoliced and they paid the price.

I went to the West Ham v Millwall league game in 1992/93,a lunchtime Sunday kick off.Every tube station from Whitechapel to Upton Park had dozens of police on,it still didn't stop it kicking off at Aldgate further down the line though.

Before and after the match there were so many police that every road off Green St from the ground to Upton Park station was blocked.There was no chance of West Ham fans gathering outside the Queens like they did this week.Millwall were given the whole open terrace behind the goal but their 2,000 supporters were in a small section in the middle, out of brick throwing distance from the home support.

The Millwall escort back down Green St to the tube station after the match was a sight to see.

The better organisation and more police stopped any trouble round the ground that day.
