according to this article it looks as though ali al habsi will be starting the game. I expect megson to have a few changes for the game as i think he will be taking the game against chelsea at the reebok more seriously (it is the league ater all)

 

the team i think he will play (would personally like to see given a run out on wednesday) will be:

 

Al Habsi

 

Steinsson, Shittu, A O'B, Robinson

 

Riga, M Davis, McCann, Gardner

 

Elmander, Klasnic

 

I hope Al Habsi and steinsson play. McCann and Davis are both due a game as is Paul Robinson. Riga has been speaking to the press about wanting a game to prove himself so would like to see him slot into the lee role on the right wing. Would also like to see how Elmander (if fit) and Klasnic work as a pairing. I think it's important to give players like Jussi, Cahill, Knight, Muamba, Taylor, SKD a bit of a break as they have played in almost all (if not all) our games this season.

 

I'm not saying that this team would win, probably far from it. Just hope that whatever team megson puts out gives a good account (and doesn't have a drumming like they did against B'Burn). Would far prefer to lose in the cup and win at the reebok

I agree that they would get beat, but not 4-0. I think a lot of those players have something to prove if they went out on the pitch and i would bet a few would put in some really good performances. Plus i'm sure chelsea will make some changes as well as they play us twice and then have a champs league game next week. I can see it maybe being a 2-1 or 3-1 chelsea victory but with bolton putting in a good positive performance. We normlly have decent results down there too.

 

As I said before that is the team i would like to see but i doubt there will be that many drastic changes. Maybe Megson will just change 3 or 4 not 10 or 11

At the end of the day, the following set of rules should always apply. Unfortunately under both Allardyce & Megson, this hasn't always been the case.

 

1. Play your strongest available team, regardless of who your next game is against. Your players re highly paid professional athletes and should be fit enough to play again 3 days later.

 

2. Players not in the team should play reserve team football and have to earn a recall, not have it handed to them via a "weakened" cup team. Winning/playing well is a habit and consistency is key to players forming relationships. The defence still hasn't gelled properly. Gardner's just settling into his new central role and Lee needs more time to bed in. As said earlier, Muamba ia must pick for the likes of Chelsea anyway, as is Davies (Terry is scared of him)

 

Therefore: the following must play IMO:

Ricketts, Cahill, Knight, Samuel

Lee, Gardner, Muamba

Davies

 

This only leaves a maximum of 3 changes and I think that's the most we should be contemplating.
