Puppy Wanted

Puppy wanted for my daughter's birthday (surprise pressie).

We're not looking for a pedigree, a 1st cross would be ok.

Bitch prefered and something that won't grow too large.

If you hear of one please let me know ASAP.

Many thanks. :good:

If you want a first cross they're usually between 400 - 600 quid.

get yourself to the dogs home, they'll have loads at this time of year.

Not necessarily, they will also come house trained etc.

(theres nowt wrong with Staffs, dicks owning Staffs yeah, but not Staffs)

Reet...

i'm probably going to get myself loads of greif for posting on this thread..

1, mayfield kennels.. dont geta pedigree as they "allegedly" participate in Puppy farming, however they do sometimes have some x breeds in that are lovely dogs and they sell them off cheap as they dont fit the "criteria". Jack ( My lurcher ) was one of these and is a lovely dog.. they sold him off for 80 quid.. which is pretty much a rescue fee..He had been there a week and we were the only ones to ask about him. He had been sent back there with is sister, as a family count cope with him..

2. Destitute animal shelter.. do have some lovely dogs and not just staffs.. the the to remeber with Staff's is that they are lovely dogs.. and its the owner that causes the problem not the dog itself.. The staff there will advise you if a dog is a good choice or not, because at the end of the day if it doesnt work out it goes straight back.. and they dont want that.

3. Leigh cats and dogs home/manchester dogs home.. Great dogs that just havent been lucky.. some people buy them ona whim and its not right. Go down have a look see if any catch your eye and ask the people working there which are potential family pets. They wont lie.. as above.. Massive stigma attached to rescue dogs.

4. Various rescue homes..

Labradoodle rescue.. Mental dogs but so much fun. Loads get rehomed as they are sold as "hypo-allergic" and "non-shedding". which neither is true. So once people realise this they send them to this place.. well worth ringing as Labradoodles are gorgeous dogs ! http://www.labradoodletrust.com/rehoming.html They are good with kids, love to play and are quite well mannered too.. My brother in law takes Reuben out with his gf's daughter quite a lot and she adores him.

5. Collie rescue.. If you dont mind the hairs get a collie. Loyal family pets. Try for a rough collie if you can they are more laid back, but Border collies are great fun and great dogs, who calm down around their second birthday.. Medium sized dogs.. My rough collie weighs about 25kg

6. Gumtree.. Loads of dogs on here from big ones to little ones.. just be very careful and make sure the reasons why they are being re-homed add up..

If you see a puppy make sure you see its mum and dad.. or at least the mum ( most dogs tend to take after their mum, as dads are normally stud dogs ).

I know i'll get some flack for this post, but if you want any info just pm me..

also try www.dogbreedinfo.com which gives a good list of info on different breeds..

Spot on. I've got a 13 week old Staff and he's perfectly fine. Had 2 before and had no problems whatsoever. Sad that they are labelled as bad dogs due to the nature of a lot of their owners.

We got a collie/staff type cross from Manchester dogs home and she's the best things on 4 legs.

Any dog has the potential to be nasty, my mum and dads spaniel had to be put down after it turned and took a big chunk out of my dad,

years of inbreeding has caused pedigree dogs to have all sorts of defects make sure you know what you're potentially getting yourself in for before you pick a dog

Same as children, I don't think there are bad dogs, just bad owners.

I got a chocolate lab 6 months ago he was 8 week old when I picked him up, and the time needed with them was alot more than expected to be honest but ive stuck with it and its very rewarding, think t'other half paid 600 for him from a farm up in Walshaw. He is a pedigree and we got to see the parents of the puppy first hand to see how they were too.

again rescue homes are also a very good source of getting a young dog too.

that link ( ww.dogbreedinfo.com ) provides quite a good database listing all the defects..

few i know of..

Cav Spaniels have small heads and the brain is compact leading to problems, nose is crushed cauing breathing problems..

Pugs have breathing problems

Shar peis have skin issues from being "baggy"

Collies have bladder issues

Labradoors have hip issues ( always geta hip and eye score )

all come from inbreeding as frank mentioned..

The tougher the dog the better with children ( IF TRAINED RIGHT ), as they dont feel as threatened.. hence why Yorkshire terriers are aggressive, but my doodle ( all 35 kgs of him ) is soft as..

the only issue i have with Staffs is that idiots target staff owners.. this isnt the dogs fault but mentality of the scumbags that see them as weapons..

Springers can develop a real agressive streak as they get older due to screwy wiring in the brain

Be prepared to feel a little sad when you go to the dogs home!

agreed.

?8.5 for this rat!

full pedigree dogs cost daft amounts of money.. end of the day one dog is the same as any other..

but if your paying 8500 for one, you would want something big !

Why big? & no each breed/cross is very different. Mine's a quite small weechon & although it's each to their own, she's perfect for me & me for her. She was approx. 500 quid but is now priceless to me.

Anyone who's met her will know what I'm going on about.

Happy if you want a cross pedigree, may I suggest you get half bichon frise due to their loving & eager to please attitude. They love children (even though I don't).

was meant to be tongue in cheek..

as i said earlier a dogs a dog and despite of what breed it is will become exactly what the owner wants..

bichon frise's are lovely dogs failing that try a westie !!

Apologies, it was lost in script.

Actually, funnily enough, mine's half pedigree bichon & half pedigree westie (weechon)!
