  • Tell you something as well, if Megson was still here - he would be getting more than a fair share of blame for this due to his failure to sign a centre back in January.   Its been near the top of ou

BTW - did anyone else think Ricketts looked more comfortable at Centre Half than right back on Sat?

Aye, but that's only because he was shite at right back.

Bloody hell - chins up chaps.

We've still got 2 centre halves for cover. AOB had a good game on Sat before he went down and Shittu's got a point to prove. His goals aside - Cahill hasn't been this Maldini style defensive demigod he's often made out to be this season. Not saying we won't miss him, but let's not go overboard and start panicking.

Provided they stay fit and their form is ok - the options we have will be fine.

agreed with all that....except rickett wasnt really tested.

Have we not got a young reserve who could step up to the plate?

Remember Whitlow filling in, and making the place his own.

Pederson doing an alright job at left back.

It'll be reet.

The options we have are shit, lets not kid ourselves. Shittu and Obrien are useless and wouldnt get in any other Prem team. Knight is getting better but with a donkey alongside him he isnt going to be too confident anymore is he?

We are gonna have to score plenty to stay up but our two top scorers are out injured. Our top scorer from last season is off form and when he does score the ref rules it out for fuck all. Its not looking good at all is it?

Its all Zak Knights fault

If had continued with his normal form since Coyle arrived, then Owen would surely have bought a new central defender

Has Cahill played his last game for Bolton?

Could Muamba play at centre back as a last resort? Can break play up, not a bad header of the ball....and he can just hoof it away rather than look uncomfortable trying to play his way out of trouble.

get well soon to Gaz

big blow this, couldnt of happened to a more crucial player, AOB , shittu and Knight really have to work hard now.

what happened to that young centre half have we loaned him out?

What a fookin' blow this is. Nowts going right this season. If we are to survive, our luck's got to improve very soon.

Terrible news for Gary and for the club! Wasnt it only last wk when OC said that Cahill staying was the deal clincher for his move from Burnley? I bet Coyles having a few regrets now.

If we drop the rose tinted glasses and are honest with ourselves we are now probably one of the favourites for the drop. Knight may have been a revelation since Coyles arrival but AOB and Shittu dont have the qualities required for this level and a teams only as good as its weakest link.

Fingers crossed that either can turn it around and develop into excellent players over the coming months, otherwise we could seriously get relegated.

Hope Gary gets better soon

regrets??? bollock.

AOB did well enough against fulham, i wonder how long he is out for.

Mark Connolly has gone on loan to St Johnstone, Coyle's old club. Managed them before Burnley

Hope all goes well for the lad. Such a horrible time with the world cup build up too, he must be in pieces.

i can see us recalling him if there is such a clause in place, just for cover really, especially as AOB limped off on sat

Chaps i cant see us surviving now.

Are you French?

Extremely bad news about Gary Cahill, after hearing on a radio station that Gary was back in contention tuesday night at Manchester City following a shoulder injury. Seems strange though i have to say that a blood clot has kept him on the sidelines for that amount of time.

I had a mate who nearly lost his leg with a blood clot. He was a semi pro footballer and only 25, so it can be quite serious.

Good luck to Gary and the club. We sure need it at present.

The injury isn't going to keep him out. The blood thinning medication is what will keep him out. If you get even a small cut when you're on that stuff then your blood doesn't clot and create a scab, so you will just bleed and bleed. Obviously, doing a physical sport like football is a MAJOR risk in that situation.

On a side note...

I think Big Dan will be adequate cover, I've never really seen him put much of a foot wrong when he's been given a chance. Sure, he's not quick... but he'll stop everything in the air (which other than Arsenal, that's what most teams play anyways). I also think OC has the option of recalling Nicky Hunt for cover, he's played centre back before - and if memory serves he isn't too shabby in that position.

no outside shot for world cup either :(

Is that the young lad we got from Wolves?

Very bad news for Gary and the club, and probably the worst area for lack of cover that we have. But like others have said it's an opportunity for somebody to step up and make the place theirs, be it Shittu or O'Brien, Ricketts or somebody else moving position, or a youngster coming through.

We'll be fine, get Wilshere and Weiss starting and go with the mentality of scoring one more than them :pardon:

Your rose-tinted glasses are working well.

Shittu has had one great performance for Bolton - at The Emirates a year ago. Most of his other full or part appearances has been littered with mistakes, one of which has normally resulted in a goal. Don't get me wrong, I agree he will do an ok job but alongside any other central defender than Cahill and I'm worried.

As for Nicky Hunt, I can't recall a single appearance for Bolton at centre back. He had a few for the U21s, I'll give you that.

shittu has apparently had a good african nations cup so might give him confidence to step in..

last time we had two big black men at centre half we were a force to be reckoned with.

I can reply to both of your answers with one statement:

at what level of football are you refering to?

This is an absolute shitter. Nothing against Danny Shittu but he isnt good enough for the prem. This is defiantly another nail to add to the coffin. But miracles do happen!! COYW!!

My boss recently had an operation on the bridge of his nose. Had a couple of glasses of wine which was enough to make the scar start bleeding.

So Cahill could go on a Paul McGrath style bender and have much the same effect as medication.

Watch out for him on Kick-Off.
