British Tv That Makes You Laugh

Featured Replies

Watching Shameless last night, it's ongoing decline got me thinking of British-made sitcom-type programmes that have genuinely made me laugh out loud over recent years as Shameless used to...

There's the obvious choices like The Office, Royle Family and Phoenix Nights.

Then there's

Catterick

The thick of it

Nighty night

Early doors

None of them are on any more

So...are these type of programmes not being made anymore or have I forgotten some / am I missing them?

Ooh I just thought...the inbetweeners is the most current

Cant beat the classics.. Only fools & horses, Vicar of Dibley, Royle Family. Though the current crop of comedys are pretty decent, Shameless (though not as good as the first few series), inbetweeners...

Outnumbered was funny the one time i saw it.

There is a fourth series of The Thick Of It being written. The first two were the best thing on telly since Phoenix Nights whereas the third would have been a true great if it weren't for having the first two to be compared against. A shame Chris Langham turned out to be into child porn, as he was better in the minsterial role than the woman who replaced him.

Porridge

Only fools and Horses

The only funny British TV shows.

Spooks

Ashes to Ashes

Hustle

Cracking British Drama !

Agree with that Maggie, I still really enjoyed the 3rd series though.

Have you seen In the Loop?

I never got around to watching it; partly through fear of being hugely disappointed

Nah you should watch it, it's a belter. It's only weak point is that you really wish Peter Capaldi is in every scene rather than just the ones he is in. If you've not seen the two one hour long The Thick Of It specials, you must.

inbetweeners is the funniest thing of the last 5 years, FACT

and peep show before that.

and early shameless before that.

most comedy on tv these days is gash.

I've seen several episodes of it, and I thought it was excellent, very well written. I think a news series is due to start this week, so I hope they can keep it as good as before. I also find The Inbetweeners most amusing. The Peep Show has been good over the years as well. The Mighty Boosh is one that plenty of folk rave about, but I don't get it to be honest.

I used to like Alan Partridge, The Office and Extras a lot as well, but I suppose they finished when they needed to before they got crap

Blackadder for me was superb :good:

Men Behaving Badly was alreet as was One Foot Int Grave

The Armando Iannucci shows

Men behaving badly 'i am wondering what colour is your bush' - still makes me laugh today

Partridge the one he shags a women he is meant to be sacking and he has the large plate scam going is brilliant.

i know this is british tv but episodes of Friends did make me laugh and still do. (typing that felt like i imagine smiley felt when he came out)

Inbetweeners, family guy, simpsons, max and paddy, How I met your mother, Phoenix nights, shameless, you've been frames, tv burp.

Sorry, i thought it was what's on British tv.

Well could answer if it was what was on Icelandic TV? :D

Most of what's been posted (as far as I know of them) are shows that are finished

What I was getting at originally is, is there anything decent still running of that ilk? (not repeats)

All Partridge / Brass Eye / The Day Today will never be beaten

Charlie Brookers screenwipes (the ones where it's just him and not his quiz show)
