I remember that 'welcome back Bolton' message! Bit too young for the 70's games but I went twice to Blackpool. One for the Freight Rover (pitch invasion!) and one was the FA Cup I think. After the FA Cup game they let both sets of fans out the same time so there was fun and games outside. My mate got arrested for squaring up to some lot who came charging at us.Always remember, when we went back to court the place was full of Zulu's and their entourage, Birmingham had rioted there around that time, glad to get away from there I can tell you!

It was a bit tasty but so were plenty of places then (Fleetwood away!) don't remember it being worse than some so why drag it all up again?

I seem to remember Horwich RMI playing Blackpool away in the cup as well when was that anyone?

In fact now that's it got me thinking, I'm sure I went to a pre season Lancashire cup game there as well in the 80's/early 90's.

A check on Wikipedia says 1982....Blackpool beat them 3-0

Thanks for that. My mates's dad had a pub in Horwich and I remember some blokes coming back and needing a stiff drink afterwards. After a rough day on and off the pitch.

I doubt there will be much trouble at the reebok for the blackpool, the trouble will be in and around Blackpool as there will be only a small Bolton following, the walk from the station to Bloomfield will not be for the feint hearted.

I may be way off the mark here but I think we were playing at Blackburn that day. Seem to remember the train staition being packed at about 1030 and folk saying that if it wasn't for the Blackburn match they would have gone to Blackpool for the Horwich game.

As an aside, a member of our scooter club here from Blackpool (Trevor Lovegrove) was with Kevin Olsson on the day and caught him as he slumped. Never been the slightest issue with me and, believe me, I never shut the f?ck up about BWFC.

Suspect it will all turn out to be a damp squib non event but there is potential for the away game. There was a time when we'd have flooded the place but I suspect those days are long gone. They'll be back where they came from after three seasons - autumn, winter and spring.

Only through a lack of tickets i think (1200 away fans allocation?)

If their ground was big enough, and we were allocated 4,000 - i'm sure every not reet in town would be going.

anyone remember the season when Blackpool, Blackburn and us were fighting for promotion to the old division 1.

We were supposed to be playing Oldham away but the game was called off 12 o clock due to fog. Blackpool were at home to Blackburn and our lot drove over and went in their terrace

About 15 minutes before kick off it did kick off in the Blackpool end and about 150 fans got moved out and walked round to the other end; as they were passing I noticed some of them they were Bolton and the coppers thinking they were Blackburn shoved them in with them. It took 5 minutes before it went off in their end and the police had to segregate the Bolton fans for the whole of the game

quite amazing biff, good job i diddnt bet anything!

bet you cant tell me what the first live televised game between an english club against european opposition?

First live televised game between an English side and Foreign opposition was in 1954 when England played the Rest of the World to mark the fiftieth anniversary of FIFA.

First live televised game between an English club side and European opposition would be either Wolves v Moscow Dynamo or Man Utd v Anderlecht. I would put my money on the Wolves game.

We were at Blackburn, drawing one apiece with a Jeff Chandler goal.

A mate of mine was a regular in the Horwich team in those days but had been injured for a couple of weeks before the big match and didn't make the 12. He took his missus shopping on the morning of the game before meeting the rest of the team at Bloomfield.

He was gutted to see the BBC cameras get off the coach just as he arrived!

Looked at the blackpool site - unbelievable the retards. As most have said on here we have played many times since 1974 and whilst I have seen a few 'events' it has not been any worse than other games during mid/late 80s. Suddenly bright lights of the premier league and soundbites from Holloway got everybody talking shite.

Watched game last week in pub in London and everyone was saying you must be pleased they are going up - oh yes, why? Less inbred than Burnley but still tinpot. My grandad was at Wembley in 1953 as well.

Would rather have gone to Cardiff

Hmmmm a Blackpool lass from last week... I most certainly would :dribble:

They are certainly big but I always say that anything bigger than a handful is a waste.

In answer to your question. The middle east guy who used to own Wimbledon (I can't remember his name) took over Cardiff City. At that time Iraq was in the news and the traditional way that Muslims react at funerals is by slapping the top of their heads. Cardiff fans took this up in honour of their new owner. They call it doing the Ayatollah.

He was know as Sam the man

In 1974 when this happened I was only 5 years old but all I have ever heard was that Kevin Olsson was fatally stabbed. Was he just an innocent fan or was he a known hooligan?

i was only 7 at the time and went to the match with my father and grandfather. Blackpool did alot of bulling that day of groups of bolton fans, families, etc, etc.

rumors have it that Olsson was in a group that was doing a spot of bulling.

just what i've heard from another site and a conversation with a blackpool fella on the old itk site.
