It's taken longer than I expected for someone to come up with that. While some might see Muamba as a holding player (Stuart Pearce for example), both Megson and Coyle have given him license to get further forward than someone who sits in front of the back four and mops up.

I've just realised you're the same person who doesn't rate Wilshere. If I'd have remembered that sooner I wouldn't have even bothered replying.

Your opinions are about as much as use as nun's tits.

But he's right that Muamba isn't a holding player

Watch him off the ball and he's clearly been employed as a box to boxer

Yes, but he clearly should be a holding player - his attributes are perfect for the role. That's not to say that over time he won't/can't develop his game so that he's effective in breaking forward.

Out of interest, if we are to use a holding midfielder who would you have there?

I'm undecided on this one

Muamba clearly has many attributes of a holding midfielder, but he has alot of energy and generally breaks up play further up the pitch than a holding midfielder.

I think for his development, he needs to learn the positional sense of a holding midfielder OR improve his distribution etc so he's more effective further forward - the only thing stopping him being eeven better for me is that he's stuck a bit between the two.

As for your question; I wouldn't play with one, I'd use two deep-ish midfielders in the 4-2-3-1 system that aren't holding players or a 4-4-2, with 2 box to boxers

Sean Davis.

He's not going to get up and down but he uses the ball well and could be used as a less tumble-prone Campo.

Good shout, had almost forgotten about Davis. Muamba and Davis as two deeper midfielders would be a good option against teams who could potentially overrun us.

Agree with that entirely

And Taylor or even M Davies could play deeper if required

Dont forget Cohen, I rate him and think he is better sat a bit deeper

Aye, him 'n'all

I think Muamba and Davis would be 1st choice for those roles but we have plenty of back-up

Ricketts played there a couple of times last season & did alright , while Coyle seems to quite like J o'Brien...don't see either of them as first choices though.

davis and muamba are my 1st choice.

i think holden could force his way in, but far to unproven at the min. i think i have cohen ahead of him.

i think you might be right homer, but i expect we will see muamba and holden in the middle on saturday

Think it proves we have a lot of options in the middle and therefore, as OC stated, Basham was about 6th choice. So very good business IMO to sell him on.

I wouldn't trust taylor to play anywhere

I would play him upfront at least he can score goals. but maybe you dont want that from a midfielder or do you want one that runs around like a headless chicken and couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo

I wouldn't trust taylor to play anywhere

But that's because you are a plank.

I wouldn't trust taylor to play anywhere

I'm beginning to think this was an unpopular point of view...

I think selling Basham to Blackpool is best for both player and club, nets us a bit of cash, gives the lad first team football and gives Blackpool a little bit of Premier League experience in their squad. Good work by OC.

Just seen on official site he has signed for Blackpool for an undisclosed fee.

good luck to him, but the right decision all around methinks

Rather unfortunate picture on that link though; he looks a tad dopey

best of luck to him
