Elmander seems to be getting a slating, while he has done nothing wrong but actually see out his contract, shock horror, (which is unsual in footballers these days). Is it his fault that Bolton didn`t offer him a longer contract? So as Elmander could be leaving Bolton for a free he is the one getting it from the fans when things don`t go well seemingly forgetting how many goals he has scored for Bolton this season. Maybe if Elmander thought and could hear the fans were actually behind him he might stay, as no one wants to be at a club where they feel they are not wanted. Just a thought fellow Bolton fans.

 

Whereas Gary Cahill would not be committing to his contract with Bolton and his loyalty to Bolton if he left in the summer. And it`s not as if he has come out and denied the rumour talks and said for definate he will be loyal to Bolton and stay. So what is the difference, ok the odd ?20m, but that should not be the point. English players are very overpriced (Andy Carroll for example). So why isn`t Gary Cahill getting the same treatment, afterall he would be leaving for more money just like Elmander but not seeing out his contract.

Because Cahill puts a shift in week in week out and has done since he joined the club. Elmander only appears to have put the effort in this season when he is out of contract and in the shop window. The two seasons before that he was useless and, in fairness, most Bolton fans were giving him stick long before now, and rightly so. He is our most expensive signing and for the majority of time at the club has been very disappointing and will leave the club for nothing. Cahill on the other hand has gone on from strength to strength since he joined us and will probably make 4 times more than we paid for him.

I think that on the Gary Cahill thing, it will be more like the club thats leading the sale in this case, not the player. Its good that Cahill maintains a political silence on the matter, unlike other gobby gets who are too eager to voice their bullshit opinions. If the suggested price is correct, then it would be good business for BWFC in my opinion. Owen Coyle had the foresight to cover the situation by bringing in Wheater. With all the out of contract players leaving the payroll it will give Owen Coyle a chance to add his stamp to the team a lot more.

 

On Elmander, I try never slag a player who wears a wanderers shirt, its not always been an easy stance to maintain.

When Cahill goes we'll get plenty of money for him. I've heard plenty of folk whingeing about him being overrated (he wasn't as good as Zat Knight not long since), but the fact is he's the best player we've had for a long time, Wilshere not withstanding. I don't see him sticking around for a Europa League campaign when he'll have the option of Champions League football. His departure is inevitable. I've always thought he'd be a great buy for Arsenal but I hope there's truth in the rumour Milan are lining him up as a replacement for Nesta. Good luck to him.

 

There's no saying Elmander won't stay, but if he does go (which looks likely, admittedly) he won't be easy to replace. Many saw this season as a fresh start for him under Coyle and he started brilliantly, but it didn't take folk long to get on his back again once the goals tailed off. He remains our leading scorer, though, only one behind Carroll, Hernandez and van Persie, level with Drogba and Rooney, with more than Torres, Chamakh and Anelka. He works hard, creates chances for others and does a fair job out of position down the right, and he's been an important part of what we've achieved this season - outside the top four, only Newcastle and Blackpool have scored more goals than us.

 

Given that Liverpool have apparently decided to try and crack the Asian market, we might have to add Chungy to the list of possible departees.

where cahill is concerned we bought him when he wasnt getting a game elsewhere, it was a slight gamble on our behalf in terms of the fee, since signing he has been consistant week in week out overall, improved the team and maintained upmost respect for the club, its staff and its fans whilst the transfer gossip has been circulating.he wants to be the best he can be(as we all do) a move will suit both parties in terms of opportunities for him and money for the club. thanks for everything gary and good luck..no qualms from me.

 

elmander on the other hand, the quote issued on the 9/2/11 saying he "doesnt feel any obligation towards bolton" kind of sums up his relationship with the club and us the fans. based on that comment, i have "no obligation" towards wanting him to stay

regardless of whether he's one of our best, or even if he's any good, elmanders pretty likely to finish with 15 goals this season

He has scored a few goals this season but not enough IMO considering he has played nearly every game and gets many chances; goals apart he has been average.

The criticism is because it's just another usual suspect. He could score 15 goals this season as Casino said, if Sturridge did that people wouldn't have a bad word to say and he does less off the ball than Elmander does, so to say goals are not enough is just ridiculous! Yes I do think he backs out of 50/50 challenges to often, but he definately works his socks off.

I'd love to see some stats as to how far each player runs each match, I reckon he would be up there. Then again I wouldn't want any facts to get in the way of an uninformed rant.

In terms of effort yes; SKD finishing has been poor the stats back that up but he never has been prolific in bagging the goals.
