Not sure what Elmander did to be seen as not level-headed. Always conducted himself well, never whinged about being put on the wing or in centre-mid. He just got on with it.

I don't see why Cahill would be any different to any other footballer. If we offer him a new 3 year deal on ?50K per week, why would he sign that when he knows in 12 months time he could walk away for nothing, get a ?5M signing on fee and a wage of upwards of ?60K per week.

Depends if he wants to further his career in what limited years he has, Elmander was never going to be a better player or play at a higher level. At that point it becomes all about the money. Cahill could play in the next 2 world cups if things go well.

If we can get ?15M~?17M for him now or possibly get nothing for him in 12 months time, then there is really only one choice. The sad thing would be if only one club came in for him, and we ended up having to let him go for something below the rumoured ?15M

It is bordering on begging, it looks a bit embarrasing to be honest and it is only going to make it glaringly obvious that we really need the money to strengthen the rest of the squad and make other times bid next to nothing.

So, he's got 12 months left and a buy-out clause of ?17 million. If we keep him, it's going to cost us the best part of ?500,000 a game. By January he'll be worth half the ?17m then in May 2012 - fuck all.

I'm not convinced he only has 12 months left. After all, whenever this is the case, every press article will mention it after a player's name.
