Gary Cahill.

I think the majority of Bolton supporters are resigned to losing Cahill this summer and Coyle has put him in the shop window with a massive advertising campaign. ?17 million seems to be the quoted figure time and time again.

But... But which clubs are realistically going to stump up the cash?

Looking at the 'big' clubs, they all already have CB's as good as/better than Cahill. Except for Arsenal, but Wenger's just ruled out any ?15m signings this summer.

Bloody Hell - just heard SSN that the Red filth are paying 15 million for Phil Jones - surely that should value Cahill at 20m + ??

Another one, half a decent season and he goes for silly money, its mental

Perhaps, just perhaps, other clubs don't value Gary as highly as some of us do.

15 million isn't silly money for the top four these days. Now that is mental.

Did I hear ?20m for Henderson from Liverpool ?

It is for an unproven 19 yr old

Cahill has played in a bottom half side that defends badly for about 2 years more than Jones.Neither are proven yet.

Perhaps Cahill has taken too long to show the ability to make us defend?

we defend better Cahill is not playing, or at least we look more solid at the back.

what a load of crap, and i suppose zat knight is brilliant ffs

No but Knight had his best games for us playing alongside Sam Rickets

Knight is dodgy as fuck and coyle dropped the biggest bollock of the season by dropping wheater and shoving knight straight back in the team, esp just befor black sunday part 2

I am not a massive Cahill fan to be honest. He is a good centre half but hasnt pushed onto the next level that ?15-?20m and a top bracket club suggests IMO

I am not going to be unhappy if we do sell and only spend up to ?5m on a replacement - which indicates what I feel the loss to the team would be :pardon:

+1 SO

I think it will be excellent business if we get ?15 million for a centre half who couldn't stop Stoke scoring 5 and Blackpool scoring 4.Not forgetting losing at home to a Sunderland team with no recognised striker.

The only class act in our squad worth a huge fee is Holden. If Holden had been playing there is no way we'd have let in 9 against Blackpool and Stoke whether Cahill played or not.

Holden is good but he's not that good.

Would he have prevented Robbo's crappy pass to no body for stokes first?

Would his sheer presence on the pitch have somehow made Cahill not head the ball where he did for the 2nd?

Could he have made Petrov not make that weak pass to Robbo then made Robbo actually tackle pennant?

Holden is an excellent player for Bwfc and a top bloke to boot but let's not get this image of him being some sort of footballing messiah.

If Holden had been playing Bolton would have controlled the central midfield and not been under anything like as much pressure.Stoke and Blackpool wouldn't have got into the dangerous areas to score 9 goals.I'm not saying he is a football messiah, he wouldn't get in Barcelona's team but he is the only class act in our squad and the only player we have good enough for top 4 imo.

Phil Jones is a good solid defender, ,Cahill is a different type of Centre Half with good technique and pace, if he signed for a top 4 club he would get the opportunity to show his ability on the ball and in 12 months from now peope will be saying what a good player he is. Cahill and Jones would make a very good central pairing. The fees for Henderson and Jones would suggest Cahill is easily worth the 17 million buyout clause.

35 Premier League appearances, though.

Christ, there were folk suggesting Nicky Hunt would play for England at that stage of his career.

At least Cahill has experience and England caps to lend credence to all the zeros in his valuation.

spot on

I think Knight's superb performance against West Ham gave him the edge.

Was that the 3-1 or the 3-0 where our back line wasnt threatened too much on each occasion?

I think Knight's superb performance against West Ham gave him the edge.

well ive never seen a superb performance from him and i dont think i will, average at his best.

Are you on glue?

Or perhaps it's because he's older and therefore his resale value will be nowhere near ?17M.
