Just bought these two, should get one done this weekend.

 

 

I'm on the third one now, the girl who kicked the hornet's nest but i find that there is just too many characters and my motivation to finish it has waned.

 

I'm the same with the films. Really enjoyed the first, the second wasn't quite as good, but watched the third for about half an hour then had to switch off. Really have no inclination to put it back on again... which is a shame.

 

 

 

 

Woah, don't know how I missed this post. Anansi Boys was my last read, it's bloody mental but brilliant! That reminds me, I need to order more of his books.

Anything by Jo Nesbo. Get yourself onto Amazon!

 

The same, very likeable, lead role all the way through. Twists and turns aplenty.. and all based in Sweden rather than your usual locations. HTH.

The next book - The Leopard is released in paper back beginning of July. Looking forward to reading that one.

The Larsson trilogy was excellant, hoping to eventually get round to reading them again fairly soon. I enjoyed the films as well.

Yep, you're right - think I'm getting mixed up with Steig Larsson.

 

Harry Hole is a great character and, along the way, there're are a lot of shocks you don't see coming with regards to his assistants/co-workers/superiors.

 

I read 3 of Nesbo's books on holiday last year and thoroughly enjoyed all of them.

 

Will they transfer into film as good? I'm not so sure, books normally don't.

Seriously, IMO, John Grisham has always set the scene really well, but failed to deliver a worthy finish.

 

If, ever, you heed my advice, go for Jo Nesbo. I assure you, you wont be disappointed. If you are, I'll stick a tenner behind the bar for you at the Rivi club.

Can't beat the 'Jack Reacher' books by Lee Child for an easy read.

The Corner is an excellent read, you end up forgetting that it is documenting real life. The Rebus books by Ian Rankin are personal favourites, I also got into reading James Ellroy. Even though he. Writes sentences. Like this

For those who like crime books, take a look at Alison Brennan, Mo Hayder or Alex Kava.

 

To join the Kindle debate, I got a Sony a couple of years ago, and use it far more than I thought I would - only bought a couple of 'real' books in the last couple of years.

 

Books are downloadable from the interweb if you look carefully, and look at 'Calibre' for book management, does a wonderful job of keeping a library, and converts from most format to most formats.

I'm toying with the idea of one, but I'm not convinced the wifi/3g model (which I think is the one to get) is worth ?152. Serious price fixing going on here: it's the exact same price everywhere.

Just read "Girl with the dragon tattoo" took about 300 pages for it to get started fair to say if I wasn't at work I'd of never read the thing

I was completely against the idea, as in, how can you take that on a beach and read for hours in the bright sunshine. But apparently you can. The batteries run forever and you can read the screen in bright light. I'm still not sure how cooking oil, sweat and sand will bear upon it.

I bought the 3G version last year, and it's great for taking on holiday, the charge lasted the 2 full weeks. It didn't have any bad effects to the oil, sweat and sand that it was exposed to, but then I wasn't making an effort to get it covered in all sorts of shit. the screen is very easy to read in bright sunshine, so that wasn't an issue.

 

It is a bit odd moving from a traditional book to an e-reader, but after a few minutes (provided the story is good enough) then you forget you're reading in digital format.

 

I'm pleased I got mine, buit I can understand why people would just go for the WiFi version and not the 3G version for the extra ?40

 

It can apparently hold up to 3000 bookes, so storage isn't an issue....although even when you delete a book, it loiters around in your Amazon account somewhere, so you can go and retireve it at a later date
