Tom Eaves

Who watches the reserves on here?

Have you seen anything from him that suggests he'll make the grade?

If he does it will not be this year or next far too young to break through,he has a long way to go to be a premiership player.

How old is he?

I think he's 20 - I'd be getting him blooded early it seems a burly english centre forward gets you top dollar these days with half a decent season in the prem.......I still can't believe liverpool paid ?35m for Andy Carroll and a combined ?75million for him henderson and downing completely nuts

Exactly why id shop abroad, you have pay ridiculous money for english players who arent even regular internationals

75m for Carroll, Henderson and Downing is a joke

Liverpool fans here reckon they are in for him - not bad for a lad who didn't play competitively for Oldham or us

If he is going to make it he should be there or there abouts by now (good players usually break into the first time before they get to 20).

Not seem him at all but OC seems to think he is almost ready - lets hope so

Rumour I've heard is that Liverpool have concerns with Carroll's off field conduct and are looking at similar players. Having missed out on Connor Wickham they are casting the net a bit wider, Eaves fits the bill.

Not being funny but I could have told them about Carroll. Maybe they need to sign Nolan to babysit him?

Anyway, ?25m for Eaves and we are laughing.

The lads a great prospect, has pace, an eye for goal and holds the ball up well. He's ready for the step up and it wouldn't suprise me if he starts the majority of cup games in place of SKD this season.

Should break in to the 1st team just in time for his 3 year contract (signed in 2010) to expire and leave us

If he`s so bloody good then he should be getting opportunities for a first team place.

Anyone know what Coyle was like at his other clubs for giving youth players a chance?

At least we'd get something for him, with him being under 24 when that happens...

If hes good enough hes old enough:

See a young lad called rooney from down the east lancs.

Saw the Reserves/Academy at Chorley last Saturday - seems I was the only one off here. No Eaves though - he's in the States.

As for last Saturday, surprisingly impressed by the ball control, passing, movement & (after the first 30 mins) the finishing. Pretty even team performance. Vela and Ryan (?) stood out a little, and the goalie made a superb point-blank save in 1st half ...... official match report has disappeared, so not sure of names.

I was there because my mate was playing for Chorley. I can't say I was that impressed by our youngsters to be honest, being 1 up at half time flattered us, and then it seemed it was more the extra fitness that took the scoreline up to 3-0 in the last 20-25 minutes. I didn't really see much in Josh Vela to say he is soon to break into the 1st team, maybe in a few years though. The player that most impressed me was no. 6 playing centre mid, not sure of his name though.

That was Blakeman, but I thought Riley (number 7) was our best player.

Riley was outstanding and I thought Vela played well too particularly in the second half

Yeah, he was.

I think on the wing could be his true position. He's always looked good going forward, he's a great crosser and as shown against Chorley, he can finish. A bit like Bale but not as good obviously.

From what I saw I don't think we will see any of that team become a 1st team regular. I know they are still young but not one of them stood out to have anything that shows they could make it.

Might be a bit harsh after just watching one match and I will be very happy to be proved wrong.

P.s That isn't including Eaves because he wasn't playing due to being in america, he might be good enough but I haven't seen him play

Anyone know what Coyle was like at his other clubs for giving youth players a chance?

There were one or two at St Johnstone but a lot finished up loaned out without coming back. Some bloke called Kevin Moon played plenty as a young lad.

At Burnley, Kyle Lafferty and Chris McCann were already youthful regulars before Coyle arrived, but he brought through teenagers like Kevin McDonald, Martin Paterson and Jay Rodriguez.

He's never really stayed in the same place long enough to have a proper MO, has he?

The players that you would expect to progress towards the first team are currently in the US so Lainton, Tope, Connolly and Eaves you would suggest you may see some or all of these on the bench this coming season on a more regular basis. The one I was surprised didn't head for the US was Vela who, in my opinion, was consistently the best player in the reserves last season. The team you saw on Saturday is very much the younger end of the age spectrum 17/18/19 yo players either playing in the reserves already or looking to push through from the Academy. There were two trialist centre halves on Saturday who I thought played well, albeit against semi pro strikers. Tom Eckersley who was injured for the final year of his scholarship at Bolton so is currently on a months trial to prove he's worth a pro contract and a former Real Madrid centre half, Jaime Navarro, who has been released and was advised by Cristiano Ronaldo to seek his future in the UK. From what I read he has had interest from a number of lower league clubs but nothing concrete has come of the interest.
