I lived on Somerton Rd for a few years. Always thought it was alreet.

 

Mind you, must admit, whenever I was asked where I lived I always ensured I made it crystal clear which part of Breightmet I lived in.

I've heard they're going to rename Walkden, Tescoville.

It is a scandal how little it's changed, apart from the town hall and Le Mans Crescent it's just a relic. Newport Street should have been flattened from top to bottom when then economy wasn't so fucked, we're stuck with it now.

Some good comments about Bolton.

I work in the Town Centre so am out and about most days. Can't say I have ever felt threatened, however, it is full of low-lifes. The shops are ok, but not a great deal of choice, there's no decent restaurants, no smaller retailers (anyone tries anything "different" they are out of buisness in a month).

 

I much prefer the Trafford Centre for shopping.

 

Food festival was good in Bolton last week though.

It's hardly reprasentative of the Town Centre though. They drove up manchester Road, Into Trinity Street, parked up at morrisons and walked from there to the town hall. What's that? 500 yards tops?

Newport Street was ugly from day one. It does indeed need flattering. I'm sure even The 1/2 price jewellers, Cash Generator, BrightHouse et all will look better in attractive buildings.

If you walk along Deansgate and look upwards, there's some cracking architecture. The whole of Oxford Street and Newport Street are shitholes. Whoever decided that concrete pre-fab buildings were ok to sit alongside the Town hall and Le mans Crescent wanted shooting.

Give it ten years and our town centre will be amazing i have no doubt. The railway station improvements will sort out the lower Bradshawgate problem and it will get better from then on.

Possibly the most picturesque part of town.

 

Akin to the grand boulevards of Paris, in fact.

 

Just lovely.

Visitors get off the train and after exchanging pleasantries with the nuisance drinkers outside the station the first shops they see are a tattoo parlour and a sex shop.

Driving up Manny Rd onto Bradshawgate and it's genuinely as bad as anything I saw in Bulgaria, Macedonia and Serbia. It's going to take more than a refit of the station to sort out.

Coming in from Blackburn Rd you've got a shut down sex shop. From Tonge Moor Rd you've got the bottom of Bank St which is horrendous. Over the other side you've got to come in via Daubhill or Deane. Pretty depressing.
