enzo gambaro Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 i think we even went a year without winning an away game at one point in the 3rd division think it ended at somewere like newport county Newport was our last away win before the Chandler penalty at Bristol Rovers. 10 months before. Fucking hell.
SpiritofBurnden Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 we only made the 3rd round about 3 times, you're not gonna get a big draw in round 1 or 2 we drew arsenal one year home or away makes no difference, surely We made the third round six times during the 80's and didn't draw a big team home or away other than Arsenal at Highbury and there was only 22,500 on for that one. We had to wait until we drew Man Utd at Old Trafford in 1991 in front of 43,000 for a bumper pay day.

I remember the coach getting trashed on the way to OT. I remember us missing a few chances in the first half. I remember being right behind the post that Mark Hughes' volley went just inside of. But most of all, I remember some cunt with a big flag that said, "Bolton Reds"

Prestonwhite Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 I'm not 100% but I'm pretty sure it was this Newcastle game when the 'Bolton Chronicle' had pics the following week on the front page of the manny road north boys getting stuck into the geordies who'd decided to go in there with the head line, 'Fists of Fury' and a close up shot of one Bolton lad landing a good punch on a geordies chin! The good old days..!
Farnywhite Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 Newport was our last away win before the Chandler penalty at Bristol Rovers. 10 months before. Fucking hell. cheers new newport rung a bell for some reason . do remember it was bristol rovers game that ended the run now its been mentioned did not go that to one but can still remember the pict on the back of the bolton news of a drenged cheff chandler after the game . there werent many highlight back then must of been the plymouth 7-2 at burnden for me
SpiritofBurnden Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 so what youre saying is we didn't draw united in the 80s ...or Liverpool, Everton, City, etc. Instead we got the likes of Derby, Coventry and Barnsley when we reached the third round.

Do you have a brother who's a little fella & painter/decorator over in Morris Green?
MalcolmW Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 What about 1981 - taking the European Champions to extra time in a replay?
bwfc2003 Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 ...or Liverpool, Everton, City, etc. Instead we got the likes of Derby, Coventry and Barnsley when we reached the third round. Barnsley - what a day out that was!!!! Bolton Evening News had a field day with all the hooliganism at oakwell
Farnywhite Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 Think I might know you. Do you have a brother who's a little fella & painter/decorator over in Morris Green? no not me mate have a brother but he lives in manchester . farnworth born and bred
paulhanley Posted September 7, 2011 Author Posted September 7, 2011 What about 1981 - taking the European Champions to extra time in a replay? Dave Hoggan double at the city ground in a 3-3 draw. Now there's a name from the past. Decent player, lost to the USA and still lives there I believe.
MickyD Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 no not me mate have a brother but he lives in manchester . farnworth born and bred Woooooooooooosh!
leigh white Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 A sad season 84/85, who will ever forget that 6-1 thrashing at Notts County ? I went loads of aways that season, i think i only ever saw us beat Cambridge Utd 3-2 on the last day of that campaign.

Preston away that season, I saw things that a well bought up young man should never see. Bet that hooligan obessed paulhanley character will be along here in aminute posting about it.

Cops tried to usher us all back on the trains but everyone was there for the shopping not the football!

Bet that hooligan obessed paulhanley character will be along here in aminute posting about it. Preston away was always a bit tricky for a Bolton fan, had many a scrape over the years. To be honest i dont mind PNE, always fair fighters, apart from chucking a Chelsea fan over a bridge to his death.
SpiritofBurnden Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 A sad season 84/85, who will ever forget that 6-1 thrashing at Notts County? I'll never forget it. They scored 5 goals in seven minutes. One of the worst grounds i've been to as well, they still had wooden terracing on the 'Cowshed'.
Casino Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 we had 12 disallowed that night cambridge away was a good laugh
Farnywhite Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 the 84/85 cambridge away game was last game of the season went to that one think we won 3 2 with rodger walker scoring we also played them on a fri night one season arrived at half time and had to climb over the wall to get in .there lads had a bit of a reputation at the time after ambushing the chelsea headhunters
pad Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 I'll never forget it. They scored 5 goals in seven minutes. One of the worst grounds i've been to as well, they still had wooden terracing on the 'Cowshed'. Who scored a hat-trick for them in that mauling, seem to remember it was a foreign sounding chap when such things were a bit lass common than today? That's the only game where I've seen someone thrown back into the ground, a lad was asking to be let out at half time, plod refused saying he'd be getting up to no good, as soon as their backs were turned he scaled the big gates and legged it. Notts finest then caught up with him and dragged him back in kicking and screaming!
Mounts Kipper Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 Think it was rachid harkouk who ripped us that night, we were 25 late and were 4 or 5 down, the Cambridge Friday nite game we also landed at half time not suprising as we were going round Kearsley roundabout at 3.45 after the game we stayed in a pub at the back of the ground until after last orders fook knows what time we got home, think Greeny got the equalizer that made it all worthwhile.
