Darren Bent

Season finished with ruptured achilles, with Robbie Keanes loan ending along with Richard Dunees long term injury, our trip to Villa now looks tastier.

Beat Villa twice away in a season, with these players, highly doubtful.

What kind of fucked up logic is that?

Watching-the-Wanderers logic, at a guess.

=@

Buggered my fantasy team that :-(

Nobody outside of the current bottom 5 is going down - end of story. That's not to say one those 5 might not overtake someone higher, but there's not a snowboarding cat's chance in hell of 3 of them doing it.

Aye,

just 3 from 5 now and it's too close to call. Any of the 5 could finish bottom or 16th.

Anyone from 13th down could get sucked into the relegation battle imo. One team in the bottom five will probably rally and pull away from trouble, but another team not currently in the bottom 5 will sink like a stone. It ain't over by any means.

Agreed - one could max it, and one could drop down big time - but the point is three have got to max it to get the dropping team into trouble. Aint going to happen. We could quite plausibly finish ahead of someone out of the current bottom 5, but there's no way on earth 2 others will do it as well.

Villa could go down; look at their fixtures

If Blackburn and we beat them they are in real trouble

There would also be a lovely symetry about big 'eck taking both brum teams down in consecutive seasons

It would also be nice to see another 'foreign investor' get fooked over

Why, because of where the money comes from?

From what I've heard Lerner is measured and is trying to run the club properly

IIRC Their shirt sponsors are actually a charity that get the coverage for free too

I'd rather him than someone born in Blighty that wants to "make a quick buck" or use a club as a plaything

Don't forget foreign investment in the right way, helps drive our economy as a whole as it's money in from elsewhere to be used here...

Bent injury is a massive blow for villa, their only source if goals..

Famous last words. Are you forgetting our charity status?

Anyone thinking that a 'foreign investor' isn't here to make money, well, you can work out the rest.

My dislike for 'foreign investors' is basically driven by the fact that they are helping to drive ridiculous transfer fees, & thus, ridiculous wage structures.

This ultimately is seeing financially smaller clubs struggling to compete & making a mockery of a game I love. You can count on one hand the number of teams that have won the league title since the arrival of the big money over 20 years ago, is this right? Do you want an elitist few? What do you thinks going to happen if or when they pull out?

Between the Yanks at L'pool, Munich, Villa, the Arabs at the Massives, the Russians at Chelski & the one trying to get his mitts on Arsenal, that's basically 6 teams who have spent big to achieve 4 spots. Someone's going to lose out, then what happens to that club?

I think the money from Sky will decrease next year & the new Financial Fair Play is too open to scamming. Do you want a SPL scenario a decade or two down the line? Sooner or later the bubble will burst, I just fear for the aftermath.

Show me which of the so called foreign investors have made money. And errm, if that's a pre-requisite for a foreign investor, do you not think it would also be for a domestic one?

Over the past 20 years that has been primarily due to Sky. Now because of Sky, this has attracted the "non-typical" football investor; and today we live in a smaller world - a global market if you will; so if you want to blame anyone, try Murdoch et al

It's easier to say which foreign investors haven't made money, & that's basically the Arabs & the Russian, though they will in time.

Don't forget that they also pull a nice wage + paid perks & lurking on the clubs spreadsheet will be a nice interest repayment aswell. The murderers & Munichs were bought with debt, so no loses there either, except to the club, that the owner still owns & will sell for a profit at some point.

The likes of Mandaric & Gaydamak were hardly put in the workhouse over their Pompey days, though employees went unpaid & local firms also.

You're right it started by Sky, though my point was it's being fueled by the 'foreign investor', they are less likely to do the right thing by the club, it's town or it's people, though we'll discuss this further when the Dingles are taken to the wall by the Venky's (without losing a penny themselves)

I don't think we disagree with a general view of what a good owner should be other than that it is dictated by the place of their birth / upbringing.

And the original point was regarding Randy Lerner; who appears decent by all accounts, but I am happy to be corrrected on that front

As a side point, owners don't pay themselves; only employees are paid; if said owner is CEO / MD / Chairman or whichever title actually runs the club then they will be paid; such as any company.

The case against presents mike Ashley, who bought Newcastle just for his ego and makes all decisions about what is better for his empire/ego than the fans

We are very lucky in that we have two local lads and top businessmen running our club as by and large they do the right thing - doubt there's many other clubs in that position, Norwich spring to mind

I've worked with AV in the past and know a few folk who know folk as you do. No one has a bad word to say about him, which is almost weird for a successful bloke, but fair play to him.

I don't know enough about Mr Lerner to pass comment, though I do remember the big transer fees & wages he gave O'neill to get them challenging for CL football, they didn't make it, he reeled in the spending (rightfully so) O'neill spat his dummy, alot of those players are now sold, Milner, Young? That was putting him on my list of 'foreign investors' helping to inflate the Elitism.

Good to see he's trying to run things properly now & fair play on the charity shirt sponsors, the cynic in me though can't see him being around in 3-5 years time though.

I'll conceed though that you have convinced me that Mr Lerner may be the better of the bad bunch.

Stoke? Wigan?

Ashley nearly fooked things up but how differently he runs them now.

so its ok for stoke, bolton and wigan to spend beyond their income cos their owner is local

how does that work?

Edited by Casino

Didn't say that, we've cut our cloth accordingly, Wigan always have, Stoke are quite comfortable

what I said was in the 3rd paragraph of post #39

so when bolton wigan and stoke exist on their owners money it doesn't encourage 'smaller' clubs to do the same

imo. yours is one fcuked up argument

btw...we've spent 120 million quid we haven't got

how is that cutting our cloth accordingly

Didn't say that either?????

Have you got your nit picking head on lad, or just not read from the earlier posts?
