fond memories of him in the early 80's

RIP fella,sleep well

Bloody hell, what a shame a strong running 100%er frightening when lads not much older are passing away. RIP thommo.

thats a chiller

not a bad un back in the day

didn't thommo score the winner against derby in the midweek game in 81/82,keeping us in the old 2nd division ?

think he also scored the winner at oldham that season in a 3-2 win

always rated him as a decent player

Always thought he had the ability to go far, don't think he ever reached the heights he should of, don't know why that was.

always remember blackburn away at easter thommo bagged a couple, have to agree he never fulfilled his promise. sad loss RIP

Rip

Bloody hell, that's sad news. 52!!!???

RIP Chris.

RIP, I remember watching him in the 80's. 52 is no age at all.

All the goals mentioned above are the ones he'll be remembered for the most. That dramatic late winner against Derby and the double at Blackburn in a 0-2 win especially.

He was one of those lads who end up doing a tour of the Lancashire town clubs. After playing for us he was at Blackburn, Wigan and Blackpool - think I remember him scoring against us once at Bloomfield Road.

Was one of that clutch of players in the late 70s and early 80s who came through our youth ranks and generally went on to make something of a career as a pro without it being at Bolton. Mick Graham, Mick Bennett, Phil Wilson, Dave Hoggan, Mike Carter, Wayne Foster - then later Steve Thompson, Warren Joyce, Neil Redfearn.

Shocked to hear the news.

where did carter go?

i thought he was going to be a world beater

scored a great goal against spurs at burnden and remember some real trickery at city

as for redfearn, what a loss

the best player of his generation

Bloody hell.

RIP Tommo.

Mike Carter showed flashes of real quality strange that he just seemed to disappear it is a mystery as to what happened to him, another player who was real quality was Dave Hoggan he went to the states and had a long and succesful career there, if he had stayed here he had the ability to play for Scotland.

I remember Tommo but was a tad too young to remember much about him, I was 8 or 9 when he left. Still a shocker though, RIP

Thoughts go out to his family,52, my age, makes you think all the shit you worry about means fuck all. R I P

He must have had injuries for his career to go downhill like that, there was a Mick Carter who scored a lot of goals in around 86-87 I thought that might have been him but seems not.

Didn't Mike Carter throw some gravel into the crowd at QPR & get into a bit of bother? First Division game.

Biff would have know if some idiot hadn't bullied him off this site.

Mike Carter played for Wrexham in that famous promotion game of ours at the Racecourse in 1988.

He scored a couple of cracking goals in Div One in the midst of us sinking without a trace once Frank Worthington had left.

Dunno why but the goal of his I remember most was a really late one in Div 2 at home to Orient in a 1-0 win on a Burnden mudbath.

Check out Carter's skills in the build up to our first goal on this game at Maine Road. Cocky celebration as well!

Only fair to mention Chris Thompson's only top flight goal - the first in a 5-2 walloping suffered at the City Ground against Cloughie's European Champions.

Shocking news, always impressed me tommo, gave the impression he would run through a brick wall for the team. always remember him giving his shirt to someone in the crowd away at wigan i think. rip chris.
