Singapore

The Hawker centres selling street food are fantastic, and being Singapore the cleanliness is top notch.

Some of the shops and hotels and restaurants on or around Orchard rd are good.

Seem to remember theres an Indian district and an Arab district, also a marina area selling the best seafood i've ever had.

Oh and theres a cricket pitch in the middle of all the skyscrapers.

Jeez - give the lad some entertainment. Behind the Orchard Park hotel, there is an establishment called Four Floors of Whores. Not for one moment am I suggesting the services be used but a beltin few hours of entertainment if you're game for it.

Floors go up in strength. Ground level (first floor in truth as you go up a flight of steps at the front of the building) is 'normal'. The ladies grouped around by origin - Russian, Thai, Viet, Latina, Caribbean, subcontinent, blah, blah. Absolute stunners. If you can show some restraint, they are coming up behind you all night, caressing your bollocks from behind, tongue flicking in an out of your ear etc. to try and get you interested.

Never been past that first floor but, the people who introduced me to the place tell me that there's a queer floor (pass at all costs) and an S&M floor but the best floor is the top one which is grouped under a kind of 'kinks and weirdos' banner. Don't know if I'd be brave enough but, I am advised that it is a mindblowing experience just to walk in the place and see the sights.

Drinks really cheap too to attract punters. Jugs of Tiger were great value.

Walk on the wild side.

Singapore has really changed in the last 5 yrs in a bid to attract more tourists. For families, there's a Universal studios (tough going in the heat) and the Zoo (night time is better but you'd probably want to hit the bars). There's the London Eye equivalent (S'pore Flyer) and the Marina Bay Sands hotel for high rise views but 69th floor of the Stamford Hotel is your best bet for great views cos it's inside and there's a decent bar (Equinox). Sentosa's been spruced up but the War Museum is still there and worth a visit.

For food, Bogsy's right, hawker centres are the best (find them everywhere, avoid Newton Circus, tourist trap). East Coast Park for cracking chilli crab, fresh fish, king prawns and satay in a relaxed by the beach mode.

Loads of bars now, the CBD area has opened up completely with the new skyscrapers. For one night, still can't beat Boat Quay (Penny Black pub end) for early doors then Clarke Quay for later.

For girls, S'pore was surprisingly relaxed about brasses (at least 4 major areas) but they've cleaned it up a bit now so there's only really 4 Floors that is quite open. It's tacky, you get mithered and full of American sailors. Good for a one night laugh I suppose but try the back of the Boat Quay - the real gem for blokes looking for Filipinas allegedly, or the Elvis bar on Boat Quay.

Just let me know if you want more info, I moved back from S'pore last year or else I'd suggest we meet up.

Enjoy it mate, it's great but with fx at 2:1, drinks are pricey.

Zurich reminded me of two of my favourite eateries. The Mongolian Barbecue at Pall Mall and the Jumbo Seafood Restaurant near Clarke Quay. Love the chilli mud crab but their black pepper mud crab is food of the Gods. We ordered a second one last time we were there.

Yep, good stuff those crabs, love it when they give you a paper bib cos it gets everywhere. I loved those chilli stingrays and garlic prawns on East Coast washed down with sugar cane juice or ice cold beer. The simple S'pore signature dish, chicken rice, is bob on ( not just breast meat and white rice but the fragrance of the rice and effort that goes into it all) is the business at 2 quid a pop.

Along with the local food, what I miss about S'pore and other expat countries is the weekend hotel buffet lunch. 75 quid at the Fullerton on Sunday gets you free flow Taittinger (and proper free flow where the waiter is by your table all the time and you can smash through 3 bottles each no problem), free cocktails and the best international food you can imagine - sashimi, curries, carveries, 4 types of oysters. 3 hours of absolute bliss, and a nice (legitimate) foot massage/kip later.

Fuck me, I fancy this now and not for the Mongolian BBQ

Honestly mate - the Mongolian BBQ is fcuking superb. How that bloke stays in that little room with a Merlin jet engine style burner flash frying your food is beyond me.

A first stop eatery for me every time I spend time there.

Been to both in the last 5 years and would recommend both. Reading Bolty58's and Zurich White's tales of the Mongolian BBQ & the Quays area make my mouth water. Would have said Singapore was quieter than KL but it sounds like they are trying to change all that.

If you do KL, The Petronas Towers get there early if you want to go to the observation decks. Or cheat and go to the KL Tower which has a better view anyway. Bukit Bintang in the evening is a must. Loads of posh bars and restaurants, Chinatown day and night to. While there take the Monorail, its cheap and has excellent views.

Just dawned on me. When I were a lad, such talk of south east asian fleshpots (or culinary delights) would mean that you were either in the armed forces/war or led a very privileged life.

We used to get slagged off in Tintern Avenue because we went to Brighton for our holidays instead of Blackpool/Morecambe/Southport! 'Posh bastards'.

Now it seems there's barely a place in the world which has not been visited by at least one WWayer (excluding Smileys wallet of course).
