Right, are there ANY decent shops?

Foot Asylum isn't bad (last time I went in was around the time of Nat's funeral tho')

Erm...

Is Sweetens still going?

They should re-open this - complete with puppies in the window (or is that a false memory?)2136465_7c91b05f.jpg

Believe its free parking in the town centre after a certain time each day now to encourage Christmas shoppers.

All they need now is some decent shops and its game on!

There's one on the Middlebrook now. Boring fact, a mate of mine works at Head Office.

Where in town was Mitton's?

Back of Newport Street up near where that ace bridge is now.

EDIT: They used to have a mynah bird that had me mesmerised when I was little.

Is Campcraft up that way still? I'm not after a brownie outfit or anything, just wondering.

Aye, though they're forever having sales that suggest it'll go the same way as everything else on that street soon enough.

Also, the phrase 'after a given time' included as a caveat. It wouldn't surprise me if this was a ruse to get folk ticketed...Lure people with 'free' parking, then slap a load of conditions into the mix...

Free from 10pm to 7am knowing Bolton Concil.

Be a shame if it does, has a good selection of quality outdoor gear in there.

the minah bird, it was called Smokey. I remember the sign on the cage that said " hi my name is smokey and i bite hard ". thanks for that photo, it has taken me back to the late 70`s / early 80`s there. memories. those were better times.

The one in the photo was, I think the kid's skatepark is there now. They moved briefly to the shop that's a Barbers now, I think, on Newport Street proper - opposite the old stationery shop. The Post Office was on the corner then too.
