This Town Is Coming Like A Ghost Town...

What's going on? Had to venture into our Town Centre yesterday, Cattle Market has bit the dust, The York was shut and on Bradshawgate, all the block from the Bookies on the corner to the old BMW place is empty (Including The Leena - no great loss, the new indian restaurant up the road is good).

Over the road the news stand that's been there since forever has also shut up shop. Perhaps the declining sales of 'toddy mags', due to the internet, was the final nail in the coffin?

Is this sommat to do with the new bus/rail interchange they're planning? It's going to be almost as welcoming as the current 'Gateway to Bolton' (you know, the one way street leading out of town...)

It's embarrassing when the likes of Bury and even Wigan, are showing us up as a right shithole.

i'll check next time i'm there, but it only splits for about 6 car lengths, doesn't it?

and the increased chance of collision beyond the lights hardly makes it worthwhile

yeh, not saying it's a good idea just that that will possibly be the reasoning for it, the flow into town would be worse than it is if the traffic could not get past traffic waiting to turn into Hypatia st and 6 cars extra in a single queue may well just take it over castle st at peak according to the traffic counts they base these thing on.

I don't know like, just summising.

What's worse is there is almost no indication that it's about to turn back into 1 lane and you've got a bollard in your way.

Bit of signage and paint on the road then it wouldn't be so bad. I had some cunt in a fucking bus trying to get past me in it the other week.

You've got it pretty much spot on there. I think Bunning off that right hand lane all together would help the traffic flow better as it removes the bottle neck as everyone merges back into one lane.

Ideally I'd like the council to get the required millions to cpo all the front gardens and turn bury road (and all the main roads out of town) into a dual carriageway complete with junction expansions to improve capacity.

The push button crossing in tonge fold is a massive hindrance to traffic flow along that stretch.

It was put in before my time but I imagine pedestrian safety was given higher priority than traffic flow

It's a good job those running Manchester didn't think, we're wank, we can never compete with that London, so why bother?

London is fucking miles away, hardly on the doorstep of Manchester.

Conversely, that's the only thing that allows cars turning right on Ainsworth Lane to get out.

I looked at putting lights on that junction a few years back and getting rid of the push button crossing (as they'd be too close together to work properly. The councillors didn't want to fund it.

It all started to go terribly wrong when the budgies left the Arndale...bring the budgies back and the town will start to prosper again

Not the budgies exactly but little unique quirks like them do generate footfall.

Back to knocking Bolton, are the Romanians still hanging round and robbing charity shops? Or are the council going to gloss over that?

I walked from Costa to M&S the other week and saw a number of them with children who wouldn't look out of place with Fagan.

I'd imagine it's quite intimidating for some people & another reason people would avoid the town centre.

Similar to Macedonia in places.

you'd still turn it all into fcuking bus lanes

He'd be able to show them how to shimmy up a drainpipe into the Queen's bedroom...(then rob it).

Don't ever mention them to a 'real' Romanian, they refer to them as Tziganes and they're almost universally despised.

Anyone know what has happened to Union Rd? I took a shortcut up to my gay hairdressers and saw that all the houses look to have been boarded up. Is it due for demolition?
