Mom Award

Kevin Davies MOM, discuss. Eagles for me.

Knight and Eagles were both excellent last night and it was great to see Chungy back.

Seen enough of Mears. Get the boy Riley in.

I thought Mills did ok last night considering its his first game for a while - yes he is slow but should be reasonable enough at this level. Mears is a special player - makes the rest of the team look world beaters he's that bad! Hopefully he can play better than he's showed but I never rated him at previous clubs.

MOM - I thought Chungy did well in patches but Eagles was probably our most dangerous player. Good to see Michael Ricketts Afobe looking dangerous too, lots of pace and power from him, he will be a good signing if we don't coach it out of him

i thought all the defenders had a decent game, bogdan did look a little shakey.

Lee MOM for me.

Mills will be fine in this league. No fucker has pace, he will be up against Connor Sammons every week. No problem.

I thought Kevin Davies had a good game. Not as good as Knight, but he dominated their defenders and won more headers than he didn't. It's not his fault our midfield was still 20 yards away from him and Sordell didn't seem to read anything he did.

My concern with Davies is that whilst he is in the team we'll continue what we did for the vast majority of the first 70 minutes last night.. and that is to kick it from back to front at every opportunity. None of our midfielders could get a foothold in the game because they were watching the ball sail over their heads time and time again. I lost count of the amount of times in the first half the ball went back to either Knight or Mills, it was then played square to Mears who then looked to play it long to Davies. It happened that many times that it appeared to be a tactic they had been working on. Most worryingly though, neither Andrews or M.Davies ever seemed interested in dropping deep to pick up possession, they just turned their backs and ambled forward - again, is this something they've been told to do, or do they just not want to take responsibility?

Anyway, back to the MoM award. I thought Knight was our best player. Mills did okay, very good in the air but as previously said will struggle if/when he comes up against pace. Eagles, once we started keeping the ball on the grass, was our most threatening player by a mile.

Problem is, we have Mears and Lee on the same side, who are coming off leg breaks, who look shit scared of tackling. Down that side is a slight worry for me.

Hopefully its just a confidence thing.

More of a team mom ,we ground the result out. special mention though for;

mills, looked rusty but will get better.

cyl, just needs more games.

kd

afoebe, gives us somehing we have'nt had for a while.

knight.

Let me justify Andrews.

On the ball: well many have claimed we missed out the middle third so yes he should offer more support but I don't think this was the game plan!

Off the ball: defensive position to stop balls into opposition strikers feet, excellent. Breaks up play often on his own. 1 out of the 4 midfield players who can be aggressive and win tackles.

And recovery runs to cover full backs OR sit in at centre half as mills/knight cover the full backs!

Neck out: will be up there for player of the season

I think the critisism of Andrews is a bit harsh, the game passed him by somewhat as the ball was usually being punted up over his head. If we bypass midfiled as we did with great regularity last night, then he is going to struggle to have any effect on the game.

Correct

Iinnnnnnnn one!!!!

Fully agree with that Gumbo. He looks a very solid player who is never going to set the pitch alight. I don't mind that though, he knows what he can do and he does it well, his defensive positioning was impressive but he also looks to get in the box when we attack.

He would have looked even more impressive if we decided to actually use the midfield last night, as it was he mostly had to work with knock downs and scraps.

Is it just me that can't get their head around this whole idea of bypassing the midfield. When you look at the players in our midfield, and look how much of a threat they will be to ANY team in the championship, surely you would work on a strategy that gets the ball into the midfields feet, on the floor, and either build attacks from one of the centre mids bursting forward, or getting the ball out wide.

unlike on saturday when we were shit from the off, we did actually start well last night

there were two close scrapes we got away with but we were very bright

lee was ripping their left side to bits and we were creating and missing chances

so, coyle swapped lee to the left wing

chances dried up

don't know why, don't really care

its an utter fcuking nonsense

Big Zat by a country mile

But no issue with skd winning it as he did everything asked if him

Eagles was most creative

Thought mavies had good all round game without being spectacular

That's about right.

Just seen the highlights on Wanderers Player (so I've no idea if ZK played well or not) but from what I saw, Eagles was our best player by a mile.

Happy with Knight Mills Andrews last night,

The defensive duo seemed to work well together, covering each other well.

As mentioned andrews puts in a shift and does what he's supposed to,

Afobe has plenty of potential !!

SKD or Zat

Mears is useless

Not happy with Mavies falling over his shoelaces again!!!!

Lad's getting a reputation

Bogdan better than I expected, happy with Andrews, not sure about Mills, more games may bring about a confidence change

Chungy should be running rings around this level , so I expect better of him in the coming weeks when he' s match fit

Eagles needs a visit to the butchers, wet lettuce in the few tackles he made

Look at Vaz Te now, he was a spiny little wimp, now look at him !!!!

With Knight its one touch ( or head) and away as you expect from a defender, but with Eagles you want him to do something positive every tme. On that basis I went Knight as MoM.

Andrews has the look of someone who could be a handful, and reminds me of the Jamie Pollock-alike rough em up that we need. I'm looking forward to Friday more than I've looked forward to a match for ages.

did you see Andrews go flat on his face during the goal celebration...

Mills celebrated towards the fans first not the players.. !!

had to change his shirt twice on the touch line, gbh from eagles I suspect during celebrations

Shame it wasn't eagles that got the bloody nose

SKD for me.
