The Case For The Defence - Would It Be A Good Idea To Have One?

Having some time on my hands, I decided to take a look at our goals against since Owen Coyle became manager

Season Matches Goals Conceded Average per match Clean Sheets

2009-2010 23 37 1.6 4

2010-2011 46 66 1.4 8

2011-2012 46 85 1.84 5

2012-2013 7 12 1.71 1

The 2011-12 season from (and including) the semi-final, we conceded 18 goals in 7 games (2.5 per game).

Taking this into account, we need to score at least 2 per game to get a result, and I think we all know we ain't going to do this.

We either need a defensive coach or a brickie to fill the goals in. Sandy Stewart (assistant manager) was apparently a left back as a player - that may explain our full back problems. Steve Davis (first team coach) was apparently a centre back when he played.

So the question is - what the fuck are they coaching?

Top spin and back hand.

Just seen the goals.

Fucking shambles.

Pub team football.

What about those stats when applied to away games only?

Since losing at Wembley we've conceded a goal inside the first 15 minutes of the second half in 46% of our league games.

On average, within 7 minutes and 26 seconds of half time.

In 30% of games since Stoke we've conceded inside 10 minutes of the second half (average 4m 14s).

Nevermind ^

Someone needs sacking for gross incompetence. Not compo, fuck off down the job centre.

Was taking alook around the other sites this morning and came arcoss these stats

"30 defeats in 50 games. 100 goals conceded, 4 clean sheets"

That's an unbelievable (but believable) stat. It probably compares with an average side's rate of less than 20%.

Wonder if Coyle and the gang know about this. I suppose it would help if we had a left back.

Riley. What happened there? Bright young hope last season, hardly a mention this year.

They've not finished coaching the talent out of him yet.

Does nobody on this site remember that he got badly injured in a game this year and is out for the foreseeable future? So many people ask why Riley isn't starting before Mears, are we that ignorant of what's going on at our club?

SnoopJohnnyJohn is clearly ignorant of what's going on at our club

i already knew that

i've seen his posts supporting coyle

*hangs head in shame*

It was Josh Vela I was thinking of. Apologies. Easy to get the two confused, bags of potential, never to be realised.

Fuck me thats bad, its bad enough when you have to score 2 at home to get something from the game, but to have to score 2 away from home to as well then we're always going to be struggling.

You can't prove anything with statistics but statistics suggest Zat Knight is fucking clueless

I thought he played well on Saturday. Maybe I shouldn't watch the game sober then.

Knight has played well all season IMO

He has, but he seems to be the defensive scapegoat on here at present.

One poster blamed him for the penalty last night FFS!

So it's Knight and Eagles then this season.

No change there then.
