It will be a struggle to fill 1-2 pages everyday if you fall out with the manager. Publishing stuff you have been told in confidence or calling for the manager to be sacked really would have you relaying on internet balloons for stories.

A journalist at the hull daily mail did that a few years back. But slagged off the then chairman of the club who was also in charge of the day to day running of the stadium. The response was a total ban of all journalists from the paper at the ground. Given that they also share the ground with one of the rugby teams there wasn't much to report on a Monday and it hit sales. Grovelling apologies soon followed
