Well there's a fair few pubs in HTown busier than they have been for years and I was shoving people out of the way in Tesco's wine aisle on Saturday so maybe the paupers sup & shop elsewhere.

The reason they are given for the increase to tackle problem drinking. First I don't have a problem drinking as I just open my mouth and drink.

 

Secondly why is that most European countries who have a lower alcohol price than us don't have the social problems that the government allege drinking brings?

 

If their argument is for the health reasons then surely they must increase tax on tobacco, fast food etc. Its a cover to put more tax into the chancellors coffers.

To the most squeezed sections it hurts the most, the feckless and pisscans will find their money for the drink - they'll cut back elsewhere. The hardworking people who say, treat themselves to three bottles for a tenner of cheap plonk of a weekend now see prices rise by 33% overnight.

 

All these cuts and stealth taxes are f*ck all in the grand scheme of things. I've said it before, it's the equivalent of scrabbling for loose change down the side of the sofa - meanwhile, some fat c*nt sits on the wing chair, snorting bugle off a diamond encrusted mirror, supping vintage champagne and lighting cuban cigars with twenties...
