January 14, 201313 yr Author Hmv have jossops old boss. Bringing down two companies in a week is one heck of an achievement. He does have the time though as he's single.

January 14, 201313 yr Called in the administrators. http://news.sky.com/story/1038057/struggling-hmv-calls-in-administrators When?
January 14, 201313 yr Adapt or die, they (HMV) where supposed to be concentrating on 'hardware' etc. Went in a few months ago for a carbon fibre vinyl brush - the lad looked at me as if I'd asked for a crank handle for a Model-T in Halfords. Probably could have sourced them for a couple of quid apiece, sold them for £8-£10... The ones who'll survive are the ones who'll innovate and cater for niche tastes. John Lewis are doing pick-up for internet orders in branches of Waitrose, Argos do the 'reserve online' and check stock feature online - I reckon these two might be alright.
January 14, 201313 yr Play.com are stopping selling goods direct and will just become a market place for other.
January 14, 201313 yr An article from 18 months ago... http://www.adamsmith.org/blog/tax-and-economy/hmv-must-adapt-or-die
January 14, 201313 yr The ones who'll survive are the ones who'll innovate and cater for niche tastes. Aye, if you sell something that you can now buy in a supermarket, you're in trouble I reckon
January 14, 201313 yr Read something to say that in 10 years, there wont be a "high street" left I agree
January 14, 201313 yr Atherton, Orwich etc. don't have big stores and manage, Manc is booming still, it's just more bad news for Bolton.
January 14, 201313 yr I understand the Council in Bolton are pulling all their clerical workers into the centre - 'to support the restaurant trade'. What happens to the caterers in the areas they're based at the moment? Have they mothballed Castle Hill btw? Wasn't that rebuilt only ten or so years ago? Perhaps, when all the High Street goes tits up, they'll fill the empty space in the Market Hall with erm..small independent stalls selling niche goods? Edited January 14, 201313 yr by Youri McAnespie
January 15, 201313 yr Author In Macclesfield we have a range of High St shops WH Smith, River Island, Boots and M&S and a lot of small independent traders that sell a range of niche goods. There is also a good selection of food outlets from cafes to decent restaurants but our local authority seem to know better despite reports that the say the high st needs to adapt and needs more independents. They have decided that they are going to rip the town apart by building a large shopping centre on the edge of town despite the Trafford Centre being 20 minutes drive away with all the large retailers you need and free parking. Experts seem to be saying that a mix of retail and residential is the future for the High St but the local authority disagree with industry experts.
January 15, 201313 yr Read something to say that in 10 years, there wont be a "high street" left I agree Yeah but I read we'll all drive floating car so no need to worry
January 15, 201313 yr In Macclesfield ... ...despite the Trafford Centre being 20 minutes drive away 20 mins away? In what? A De Lorean?
January 15, 201313 yr I live about 6/8 miles from the TC and doubt I could leave mine and get in there in 20 minutes you can add 20 minutes on just for parking and walking to the front doors from car
January 15, 201313 yr Councils must take a proportion of the blame for ruining the High Street by not providing public services like toilets and free parking.
January 15, 201313 yr Councils must take a proportion of the blame for ruining the High Street by not providing public services like toilets and free parking. Really? That's what McDonalds is for. McPiss.
January 15, 201313 yr Albert Halls toilets are excellent and centrally located right in the middle of all those pound and charidee shops.

I'm led to believe the Castle Centre at Tonge Moor isn't owned by the Council, Dawn Industries own it.
