Y'know what though, there are plenty of footballers, basketballers, baseballers, boxers, film stars, etc who don't need any money but are still happy to take it.

 

I'm sure there are plenty of charities out there who would gladly be the recipient of a few million £s per year regardless of if it's a PR stunt or not.

 

Also, one thing you know you'll get from Beckham is 100% effort and commitment. PSG know they're signing a player who's not just going there with the intention to simply sit on his arse and boost his own image.

Why doesn't everyone do it then? Like someone mentioned earlier I'm sure he'll earn money from image rights. Probably does his 'brand' image no harm But he could of had image rights and a salary anyway. I find it odd that he's being scrutinized for giving money to charity to be honest.

I'm sure many do, but they don't announce it.

 

He'll have sat down and done a cost/benefit job on this.

It is a nice gesture, who's saying it's not. It is also a very clever piece of marketing which is the crux of the matter. Folk aren't calling him, they're pointing out that it does Brand Beckham no harm whatsoever and it's really not costing him that much money either.

 

If more folk buy the offshoot tat like perfume then he's on a chicken dinner. His wife won't be though, obviously.

If his motives are purely to build the brand, then it is a bit cuntish. I've met the man through work, he seemed nice enough if a little devoid of personality and in no way sexy. I have no idea what his motives, as i'm sure no one on here has either, so will refrain from calling him a cunt unless their next marketing campaign is orphan dollies who speak french when you pull a cord in its back.

Fucks sake, maybe sometimes people just do good things for the sake of it? My mates dad organised a charity band do for a well known Bolton kids charity, wrote to the club asking for a donation for a charity auction and got nowt. Few days later, Dougie Freedman called him personally to apologise, as theyd only seen the letter after the event, said of course they would have donated, but that the club does an annual day for said home so they won't lose out. Maybe the club should not bother this year, don't want to be seen courting publicity and being called a set of cunts by cynics off here who would probably never put a button in a charity tin.
