Do You Give To Beggars?

Gave one 50p today.

It will obviously go towards a can of Zepplin....but so what,we all have our vices.

Told my wife when I got in and she kicked off with the old 'fuck em' malarkey.

So I ask....

Do you lot give Beggars anything??

Unfortunately I got conditioned by the foreign ones with kids round Piccadilly who got picked up by their husbands in their mercs and bmw's behind our office every night.

Seen that loads of times, puts a bitter taste in ones mouth.

Done that loads of times Gonzo, puts a bitter taste in ones mouth but I didn't have a scabby head!!!

We had one legend in Leigh from the Balkans shouting " Big Issue" on Bradshawgate sat in a wheel chair with a missing leg, she must have got sick of Leyth and moved to Piccadilly, oh and, her missing leg had grown back when i clocked her on the station forecourt.

Bernard?

He was always in the same place, opposit the 2 lions, (town hall), he used to get some shit, poor sod.

There was once a beggar near a macdonalds, so when I bought my dinner there I got an extra burger for him. I then gave it to him and he asked what the fuck he was supposed to do with that he wanted money, so my answer is not a fuckin chance.

See now that would piss me off. Surprised he didn't end up with burger jammed up his clacker.

And a dog. Is it supposed to create extra sympathy?

Apparently it's to stop the police from nicking them or moving them on in that if they do owt with the tramp they have got to make sure the dog is ok and sort that out at a home or something, which is a pain in the arse

I sometimes do though last time I did in London some Scottish skank kicked off as I only gave her 50p so fuck em all

I witnessed similar in town, a bloke gave a beggar a sandwich and the beggar said he didn't want it he just wanted money, there was a right row going on, so the bloke took the sandwich back and threw it at him, the smelly cunt had food all over him, funny as fuck, so from that day i give them fuck all

I do wonder how much they make on an average week, especially in a busy town centre?

10's, 100's?

If you were on your arse and homeless, surely with your initial beggings you could take yourself to a £1 shop - buy some, I don't know, umbrellas or cans of pop or something. Sell 'em for a small mark-up on the approach to the train station or elsewhere...

No enterprise some of 'em, there's one in town who's main 'selling point' is to sit with a sad/glum face. Some girl I know said she always gives him a quid - so I told her I saw him in the Octagon car park, getting changed and chucking his beggar's garb into the back of a new VW Golf then getting in and driving off. :) Watch somebody come on with some tragic backstory about him now, to make me look a (bigger) heartless wanker.

I knew there was a latent Conservative voter in you. Well done.

Bit of free enterprise. The cure.

When you do a bit of travelling you see what real poverty is. Nobody needs to beg in the UK.

Traf is correct, it was Bernard and he was a right rum bugger. I used to work for the BEN and we had to collect all the money off the sellers every night. As Bernard didn't have the use of his arms we had to get the money out of his trouser pocket and of course one of his pockets failed to exist so you can image what you got a handful of instead!! Gave my mate Julie nightmares for years ha ha!!

Bernard had some top quality trinkets as well as cigarette lighters for sale on his wheelchair tray.

How he didn't get a Bolton Enterprise award, I don't know.

He made a small fortune on that stand!

Fair play to Bernard he used to bus in every day in his chair and someone would strap him in.

There's a plaque to him on his old pitch.

Is it true he did a bit of bird for 'smuggling' cigarettes from Tenerife? If it is, it's another example of shameful harsh sentencing in cases of duty evasion (Google 'garlic smuggling' for other examples).

If it isn't, my apologies.

I hope his pitch went to a good home and not some East European scrounger.

I'm sure he didn't want to be disabled and this might sound a bit patronising, but Bolton dies a little bit each time one of the old characters from my youth die.
