March 13, 201313 yr Arsenal have always played in the top league. Don't know where you got that nonsense from! Arsenal joined the league in divisionTWO in 1893 and in 1903 earned promotion finishing second to PNE and edging out MU. 1n 1913 they were RELEGATED along with Notts County, having finished 5 points adrift with only 3 wins. In 1914 they missed promotion on goal average, losing out to Bradford Park Aveune, and in 1915 they finished sixth. When football resumed after WWI the divisions were increased from 20 to 22. Derby and PNE were promoted in the normal way, as the top 2 in Division Two. Tottenham (20th) were relegated but Chelsea (19th) were re-elected together with Arsenal. That is one of the major reasons for Spurs antipathy towards Arsenal.
