Freedman...- took over a club that had had over 18 months of decline & mismanagement & was heading for another relegation, & turned it around to finishing only a whisker off a play off position. (despite the losses of Mavies, Spearing, N'Gog & Dawson)

 

- inherited a squad of uncommited, unfit & ordinary players & turned them into a hardworking competent team with some remarkable individual improvements , & showed a ruthless, streak in getting rid of wasters ( Petrov & more to come) & older players (SKD )

 

- has started the gradual introduction of homegrown players.

 

-intelligent tactical switches & substitutions tailored to each game or situation.

 

-the addition of the excellent Medo, promising C Davies & Dawson shows a good eye for (cheap ) players.

 

Of course there's no guarantee of success & it's easy to hope for failure & bitch at the slightest setback (100% success rate isn't possible ), but i'd be happy if DF was given the security & chance to build long term, with a long term contract, 5 years like Allardyce. Continuity is nearly always the key to success...look at Munich, Wiggin or Allardyce for us, or the other side of the coin at Wolves.

DF's job on the Wanderers squad is a work in progress - he's barely had time to scratch the surface. I agree with what va va says above, but I also don't forget some of his mysterious team selections.

 

My view before OC was sacked was that almost any new manager could do better with the same players. In retrospect a lot of our players are not as good as I thought they must be; or DF is more inexperienced than I'd thought. I also thought that any new manager would take 18 months or so to sort out the damage OC had done.

 

Whatever - DF stopped the rot and got us up the table. Now he needs to build on that, subject to the club's resources. Jury's still out for me.

I've a feeling if Gartside had given the nod to an uninspiring shithouse like Big Mick McCarthy, the usual 'jury's still out' suspects would be singing his praises - if we'd finished, say 14th (like Ipswich). It'd have been; "Big Mick's come in and steadied the ship..." or "We'd have gone down under Coyle..." - instead it's "I'm far from convinced with Freedman..." - The same conclusion would've been reached (Freedman = Wrong Man) if we'd won the play-offs, it'd have merely been postponed to our first string of poor draws/defeats in the Prem.

 

Like many others have stated, we'd wrote the season off on here as a majority long ago - so to then take it to the final day was nothing short of remarkable.

 

I'm sure some still cling to the f*cking daft notion Fathead is going to bury the hatchet with Gartside, and, one day, there's going to be some Prodigal's return...Deluded.

At the time I thought Big Mick would be a good move till the need of the season to keep us in the league & then next season get a good un for us to press on with. Then that bloody Garslime goes and gets a young up and coming manager who looks to have improved the team in a number of ways in the short time he's been here.

That'll be why I don't run a club & Garslime gets paid very well for doing what he does.

Re: No Balls wanting Big Mick (ooer!) I think, at that point, everyone just wanted Coyle and co. long gone, I wouldn't take much notice to who people favoured at that time - we just wanted The Muppet Show moving on...

 

This inference that everyone is 'loved-up' with Dougie for no real reason, I don't get it. The majority of us did have a jury situation on him, he didn't really come in to any great fanfare - I'd be interested to see the results of that next Manager poll we had, I'd guess Freedman wasn't that high on the list? He's earned the respect through the results. Like I said before, we'd all but given up on getting into the play-offs - the run-in was remarkable.

Don't post much on here but I agree with the above. Many times Mount posted what I was thinking so there was no point but ever since DF was appointed haven't agreed with much of the negativity but I suppose it's all about opinions anyway. FWIW I would have been gutted if we had got MM. Yes he can keep sides in the Championship but he was beyond woeful in the Prem with two of the lowest points totals ever. It would have meant we had given up hope of ever being established in the Prem. With DF at least we can dream of just maybe getting back to that.

Agree Mounts although last few weeks were more positive. It took him 3 months to get us going and even though we finished the season well the performances were hardly inspiring

The guy has done nothing yet. He had enough time when he came to get us in the play-offs and he failed.

That said there are many encouraging signs, he conducts himself well, appears tactically aware, and has improved both fitness levels and work-rate.

I'm always positive and optimistic about BWFC although does not always translate like that on here I'm sonewhere between happy clappy and Smithills Gent in my view of where we are as a club. I think my views are realistic and reflect a balanced view, yes we are slowly turning the corner but a no in terms of DF being anything like a messiah. I'm 100% behind the club I've bought my season ticket and will do more than my share of away days next season, there's a spare seat next to me, what about you Traf?
