September 9, 201312 yr And you think many of them do? I'm not a parent, but I think a high percentage of them would want their kids to do better than they've done, no matter what that is I could be wrong, but most tend to want "more" for their kids son't they?
September 9, 201312 yr And you think many of them do? Probably not, that's why I wrote 'theoretical' though. My point has got waylaid somewhat, kids these days are too quick to think they know f*cking everything - nothing new there, we all did too, however, due to having instant access to information via the internet, kids today think they have the knowledge to engage adults on each and every subject - they seem to reserve the right to argue the toss over everything. They don't...
September 9, 201312 yr We're a software company and its for general admin with an introduction to helping on our support desk. We're based on Marple. Is that what's classed as an apprenticeship these days?
September 9, 201312 yr Is that what's classed as an apprenticeship these days? Aye, take lads on for 2 yrs, teach them fuck all, get them to do all the shitty menial tasks for £125 a week and then let them go once they have to give them a real wage. Then they take a fresh set of lads on and the cycle restarts.

September 9, 201312 yr My lad was getting £55 on the dole, but wanted to work. He got on at Bury FC doing coaching in the community etc. He used to walk a mile and a half in the morning to Bacup to catch a bus to Rawtenstall to then get another bus to Bury and then walk to Gigg Lane. He was £70 a week better off doing the apprenticeship before bus fares, giving his mum a few quid etc. All in all, it wasn't really worth his while, but he wanted to work. It did, however, highlight some reasons why certain groups of folk can't be arsed.
September 9, 201312 yr Oh, and at the end of it all, they let him go and brought another apprentice in.
September 9, 201312 yr Aye. And then folk are surprised when they can't be arsed at the interviews? You may have a point, but I'd say it was more a case of the majority thinking short term "I can't be arsed" rather than long term "There may not be anything for me at the end of it".
September 9, 201312 yr Author Is that what's classed as an apprenticeship these days? They they will get looked after and if they show aptitude they will get a full time job. Not after cheap labour, the MD wants to give somebody a chance and today his faith has been restored. I'm lucky I work for a very good company that not only pays me well but is very into the welfare of there employees.

However, the apprenticeship scheme is being badly abused elsewhere.
September 9, 201312 yr Author Then fair fucks to him. However, the apprenticeship scheme is being badly abused elsewhere. Agreed pal. To be fair we are interviewing them like somebody applying for a full time position would. They'll go to college etc. We want somebody young to come through, I can't go on forever.

September 9, 201312 yr I'm currently looking for an apprentice web design type chap or chapess. Never taken this route before, is it worth the effort?
September 9, 201312 yr I'm currently looking for an apprentice web design type chap or chapess. Never taken this route before, is it worth the effort? We take on graduates. There are advantages but there's many aspects I and others believe the unis/polys teach incorrectly so by the time you get a 21/22 year old they've already picked up some habits that hinder your training as they think because they were taught it a certain way it must be right. I think there's a lot to be sai for getting a fresh 18 year old with enthusiasm.

Yep had it in engineering for years, I've got a degree, you've not so I'm right, I normally give them the benefit of my 35 years experience once, keep the emails and stick it to them in 18 months when the shit hits the fan, because they think you’ve forgot the conversation you had about the subject

We've tried but he won't listen. .. he's doing business studies because he wants an office job doing finance. ... Yes... doing finance. .. so that's 27k of debt so he can get a job just over nmw. He hasn't twigged I have the same degree and I lug furniture all day. .. Brainwashed from a young age
