Crimewatch Toneet

McCanns on it.

What are we thinking then ??

Just reading a few things, and Im not one for conspiracies around it, or anything. But I found what Kate wrote in her biography on page 129, very very strange.

Whenever this case crops up so do the class warriors with their chips firmly on their working class shoulders.

I agree that it would be different if the McCanns lived on an estate as then Madeleine would probably be hidden under a bed Shannon Matthews style.

Id say I was brought up fairly middle class. Proper council estate now though.

Still don't get the leaving the young uns alone whilst on a family holiday. If you want to enjoy time away from the kids dont take em on holiday with you.

Where ever we went on holiday as a kid we did everything together as a family. If my mum and Dad wanted a holiday without us we'd stay at the grandparents or friends.

I thought the same...kids in creche whilst they played tennis...went for a run etc...not the typical family holiday

We go to these holiday villages and the idea is that the kids have stuff on during the day and are looked after so parents can do their thing and the kids are looked after. Kids loved it when they were younger, not arsed now they make mates and go off an do their thing.

However you do not leave young kids in a room at that age on their own.

The more I think about it the parents are guilty of at least being shit parents so hard to judge them on more serious stuff, they are bound to be trying to ease their own guilt so will come across edgy.

Different way of living to you Traf.  Quite possibly send their children to boarding school too, as soon as they're old enough.  And that's why they run the country, and their children are being brought up to do the same, and you don't.

I'd rather have it my way, though.

Derek Acorah says she's dead and will never be found, so get over it.

Sam likes this

I like the sound of this ghost, I'd certainly like to give her the willies...

Probably.

so can we have a quick vote please

who on this site has left children of a similar age alone on holiday whilst they've gone to a local bar/restaurant ?

i've certainly not........

Nor me.

I may well have had the kids out later than they should be, but at least I could always see them.

exactly pal. when my daughter was young, she never out of the sight of myself or my ex wife Attila the Mum

Never in a million years.

Not in today's world anyway.

My lads 2&half and i know it may sounds sanctimonious written on a forum but the thought wouldn't even cross my mind.

When I was a kid things were different,my old fella used to go for a jar over the road whilst my mum worked night and left me and my brothers in the house no problems whatsoever....apart from the front room getting trashed thanks to a royle rumble.

But nowadays...I wouldn't dream of doing that.

The worlds gone fucked.

Fucking hell, I don't even leave the dog on her own when I'm out with my mates, she stays with my parents. :)

I presume your old man used to lock the door though (or tell you to lock it and open it to no-one)?

my daughter's 18 now and i still worry about her going out due to the fucked up state of play in today's world.

i'm forever texting her, telling her to let me know she gets home safely,''always cover your drinks up in the clubs'',don't leave your phone in a paki taxi etc

i always get the blunt reply of ''thanks dad,but what were you doing when you were 18 ?''

fair point i suppose, but she's still my baby and always will be

Only time I left mine was in the car while nipping to a cash machine or into a petrol station kiosk to pay for fuel.

I would always be on edge even though the car was locked and only a few yards away.

How anyone can leave kids and enjoy a meal out is beyond me.

What is this 'fucked up world of today' that folk commonly refer to? Is it more fucked up than the world of Peter Sutcliffe, Fred West, Sidney Cooke et al?

You often see girls walking the streets talking on mobile phones, in constant contact with someone who cares for their safety - I'd venture they're 10X times safer than in years gone by...

Exactly, how could I know they weren't 'sharking' customers with underweight deals and pocketing the surplus? :)

i'd argue that hell of a lot of paedos and the like use today's technology such as the net etc to glean info on kids and share it easily nowadays with their pervo mates.

on a side note,i can imagine the McCanns in their proefession preaching and patronising the likes of us to stop smoking, drinking, going on wways with the deviants etc. Yet they leave their kids on their own whilst in a foreign land

bath time,i've said too much

It's debatable whether sick bastards, who may or may not have acted upon their urges alone, in times gone by, find it easier nowadays to find and engage with those of a similar mind or 'normalization' of their drives (a completely f*cking warped term there but I can't think of anything else to describe it), I suppose it would also be arguable that as technology moves to aid them, it also moves in ways to detect, prevent and convict them too.

I'm glad I don't have to make the judgement call of allowing personal freedom and growth weighed against the slight but catastrophic chance of a child falling victim to a crime such as these.
