I imagine that's quite subjective to the individual as proved with MK Dons/Wimbledon.

We're Bolton Wanderers. If that changes, we are a franchise. We might get some money in and some short term success. But ultimately you are not the same club and open yourself to further name changes, a change of town or whatever. You become less of an institution and more of a commodity.

 

It seems a bit churlish for Hull fans to be complaining in some respects, especially when they have (like Cardiff) used the owner's money to get promotion. But I think they know if they give in here, they give in all the way down the line.

I'm not even happy about chopping and changing the club crest, let alone the name of the club. What puzzles me is that some of these owners talk about 'branding' but they inherit 'brands' with the best part of 100 years of history and the first thing they do is to dilute that brand by changing the name, the colours, etc.

yep! can't believe some of the agreeable sentiment being spewed out on this thread on this guys plans, its probably only worth a few million, which is equivalent to just one of his top earners annual wage. Football it would seem is truly dead.

 What puzzles me is that some of these owners talk about 'branding' but they inherit 'brands' with the best part of 100 years of history and the first thing they do is to dilute that brand by changing the name, the colours, etc.

The previous 100 years of history isn't relevant to some of these new owners, and let's be honest it's totally irrelevant to the markets that they're targeting (Far East, Middle East and US) - that's why they don't mind dispensing with it.

 

MK Dons won't be the last "Franchise" that moves town/city, there will no doubt be more in the future as clubs start to become much more of a commodity than they are now.

 

Like with American football, clubs will also start playing league games in various locations around then world in order to further increase their brand. It's not a case of if, it's a case of when.

Think what's also pissed the fans off is that he changed the business name of the club to Hull Tigers around the start of last season and has drawn sponsership in from that. When that first emerged there were concerns that he could also change the official name of the club, he was adamant that he wouldn't.
